First class move by Trotz ^.

Cannot imagine that it will take long until he is working again - almost certainly by September if he wants to.

Yeah because they have less offensive tools to work with than the 29 other teams in the NHL and opening things up in that scenario is a recipe for success? IMO this team will be front and center in the McDavid sweepstakes and in a way I feel the team almost purposely made the move for this purpose as Trotz would keep them competitive enough where 29, 30 wasn't a possibility. Now it is with that roster and what will likely be a lesser head coach.

I can imagine that the Preds want to try something new, but it's hard to think that any other coach could have done better over the past 16 years.

A head coach lasting 16 years with one team is quite an accomplishment these days.

How can you say it will be a lesser head coach? They made this move for McDavid? Oh boy!

Their D isn't going anywhere, Rinne will be healthy from day 1. Their offence needs a gamebreaker. Forsberg will be on the team, Jarnkrok will be there all year next year. This team has never just mailed it in, why would they start now?

IMO, I am damn sure Preds won't be anywhere near McDavid sweepstakes.

I am pretty excited about this. I'm not a fan of Trotz, his style, or some of his antics. I guarantee it doesn't take long for him to surface and when he does, I hope it's in the east and preferably in the Atlantic division.

Why did they fire him in the first place? 88 points with that roster is a big improvement over last year where they were on pace for 70 points. It would have made much more sense to fire him last season. I do feel they made this move specifically in a season where supposedly the next Crosby is available in the draft as if the new coach improves on their 88 point season then great but if he can't make chicken salad out of chicken sh$t like Trotz could there is a silver lining.

He's been there for 16 years. Why wasn't he fired after first year or after 5 years or 10 years etc etc. Sometimes change is a good thing?

I still don't know where you're getting the idea that they will hire a lesser coach.

Difference between "firing" & not renewing his contract is severance payout for a budget conscious club.

Who out there will be better? They going to bring in the next hottest assistant coach? Maybe a retread like Mark Crawford? There's 30 teams in this league and probably 20 or less really good head NHL head coaches in the world and Trotz was one of them.

This will only true if they hired Joe Sacco as their next head coach

So Barry Trotz is the best coach available on the market? That means teams that will be firing their coaches will be lining up to get him. A coach whos played a tight defensive system, never really produced an offensive player can;t possible be the best on the market.

How about Petr Laviolette? Guy Boucher? Or as you know most of these good head coaches were these hot assistants at one point.

Trotz is a solid coach but let's not forget he never got this team past the second round in 16 years. It's time for a change.

Best coach available by far. He will be one of the first coaches hired this offseason and it's no given either Boucher or Laviolette find work. The league knows what Trotz did with some of the least talented teams put together over his 16 year duration. It seems many have forgotten three 100+ seasons and several seasons when they were in the top 10 for goals for but it seems much like the Flames people still associate the Predators as always this low scoring team. IMO he's one of the most underappreciated coaches in the league and we can only hope he doesn't land in Vancouver.

People will classify any team besides Calgary as "tankers" over literally anything, astounding.

They can't play more offensive without offensive talent. That offense is just terrible.

That's about to change. The cap will go up every season. There will start to be many "Budget" teams.

Jimmy Murphy @MurphysLaw74
Heard from multiple sources that there is strong interest from both sides for Peter Laviolette to become head coach of Nashville Predators.
