Perlini had two goals at the u18 today. I wonder if he could also sneak into say the top six. His foot speed is ridonkulous for a big guy.

Yeah, just brushing him aside suggesting Ritchie only has a great shot and good skating is being pretty disingenuous. Ritchie has a lot going for him. His shot, his playmaking, his skating and his size are all major pluses.

Needs to work on intensity though, which beset a guy like Getzlaf previously.

He's a guy that will need more guidance and development then Bennett or Reinhart but he could be just as good.

Michael Dal Colle & Sam Bennett are probably the closest playstyles.
I haven't seen any of these guys, but Dal Colle reminds me of Landeskog based on everyone's descriptions in here...if that's accurate, he's the guy I want for the Flames ...

...although, if Drasaitl is compared to Kopitar, that could work too

If you look at the modern NHL (post '04/'05 lockout):

2006:
1. Erik Johnson
2. Jordan Staal
3. Jonathan Toews
4. Nicklas Backstrom
5. Phil Kessell

2007:
1. Patrick Kane
2. James Van Riemsdyk
3. Kyle Turris
4. Thomas Hickey
5. Karl Alzner

2008:
1. Steven Stamkos
2. Drew Doughty
3. Zach Bogosian
4. Alex Pietrangelo
5. Luke Schenn

2009:
1. John Tavares
2. Victor Hedman
3. Matt Duchene
4. Evander Kane
5. Brayden Schenn

2010:
1. Taylor Hall
2. Tyler Seguin
3. Erik Gudbranson
4. Ryan Johansen
5. Nino Niederreiter

2011:
1. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
2. Gabriel Landeskog
3. Jonathan Huberdeau
4. Adam Larsson
5. Ryan Strome

2012:
1. Nail Yakupov
2. Ryan Murray
3. Alex Galchenyuk
4. Griffin Reinhart
5. Morgan Rielly

2013:
1. Nathan Mackinnon
2. Aleksander Barkov
3. Jonathan Drouin
4. Seth Jones
5. Elias Lindholm

Complete "busts" just don't happen like they used to, at least not in the top 6. The top 5 is pretty much a lock to be an every day, good hockey player. The closest thing to a bust is Yakupov, who has had his development all "Edmontoned". Out of the 40 picks I listed above, Yakupov and Hickey are the closest things to "busts".

And as a small bit of optimistic news regarding the 1999 draft you mentioned - Burke has been quoted saying the Sedins were the only two players from that year (I assume at the top of the draft) that he believed had a chance to be impact players. He definitely got that right.

Imagine the oil going back 3 years and getting, Kane , stamkos, and Tavares
They can't even lose in the right years

Ritchie's floor is not a 2nd line NHLer.

Could be argued that they wouldn't be the Kane/Stamkos/Tavares we know today.

Looking at it, they would have been much better to take Seguin, Landeskog and Murray.

I don't see any scenario you draft Ritchie Top 5.

I mean lacking 20 pounds on you draft year is nothing, nobody should be picking someone less talented because they currently weigh more or lift more.

I wasn't implying that he would be. He's behind Reinhart, Ekblad, Bennett, Draisaitl and Dal Colle in most peoples' books. Doesn't mean he's not an exciting prospect.

I agree. Thats what the later rounds are for.

There are lots of good players in the top 20. Id like the flames to collect another pick

The Flames need another potential 1st line forward or top pairing defenceman. In this years draft it's highly unlikely to find that later than the 4th pick.

We have plenty of quantity; time to add another Monahan-level quality prospect. Stick with the 4th pick.

He had 20-40 assists less than all of the top 5. You watch him and you can see he's much more of a finisher.

Also Rick Nash = do not want. Not a player you win with.

I think if Bennett is somehow available we take him. But if it comes down to Dal Colle, Ritchie, or Draisaitl, I'd take my pick of the Dal Colle or Ritchie.

At #4, if Ekblad, Reinhart, and Bennett are all unfortunately taken, the #4 priority should really be Dal Colle.

Of course, if any of the top 3 players are available at 4 (because Edmonton is (no) good at picking Draisaitl at 3), of course you take one of them over Dal Colle.

Rick Nash might not be a player you build around but he's a player you can certainly win with.

Actually there more question marks besides Yakupov and Hickey.

Huberdeau had almost as awful a sophomore season as Yak.

Larsson spent more time in the AHL and didn't play much when he was up.

Luke Schenn was a healthy scratch this year with Philly

Gudbranson has 21 points in 169 games.

Niederreiter has yet to really break out although he showed signs this year.

Lots of potential "busts" still in the top 5.

Exactly.

Quote:

That's laughable. Since when did Flames fans become so picky, they would opt to leave an olympian and a top 30 NHL'er off their roster? Ridiculous notion.

I'd take Nash any day. I'm sure the Flames would too, and so would 28 other teams.
