The game I saw him play he was the Heat's best forward. Granlund had been called up but the rest of the Heat players were still in Abby. The idea that he takes a while to get comfortable at the next level may work against his chances as he has a lot of competition to make the Flames. I sure hope he does get his chance as someone said he can play on any line. Third line to begin, with a chance to move up as I don't want to put a ceiling on him. My fear is that he doesn't get a good chance and he settles in to be a top AHL player.

The emergence of Granlund and Reinhart, along with the arrival of Gaudreau, could be bad news for Baertschi. Flames find themselves with some very solid parts on the left side and could move a player for some long term help on the blueline. Baertschi and the #4 to Buffalo for Pysyk and the #2? Flames come away with Reinhart/Bennet and Pysyk and the Sabers come away Baertschi and their choice at #4. Both teams get a kick start in their rebuilds and fill holes in their system.

I personally would favor Max over most other forward youngsters who have suited up for the Flames this season:
Hanowski
Agostino
Smith
Jones
Street
Hopefully he makes the team next year out of camp.

I wouldn't really call Smith (29) /Jones (27)/Street (27) youngsters. Id call them AHL tweeners, great AHL players and okay for a short call up.

The time has come for Max Reinhart to make the Flames, in my opinion. He has paid his dues in the minors and developed very well accordingly. I think he'll definitely make it in the NHL as an energy guy with the potential to play on the 3rd line and PK. Bouma has impressed me this season and looks great on the 3rd line – to me Reinhart is a similar calibre of player.
I don't think he has the offensive acumen to play regularly in the top 6 on a good NHL team, but he could surprise me.
If Cammy and Galiardi walk then I expect to see a lineup like this (of course Burke could work his magic at the draft as well):
Glencross Backlund Hudler
Baertschi (or Gaudreau) Monahan Colborne
Bouma Stajan Jones
Reinhart Knight McGrattan
Byron/Poirier

He's going to have to claw for every opportunity to show that he's more than just a 3rd/4th liner.
He did have an impressive year, and I can't wait to see if there is more there than what he's been pegged as.

You have to love being a Flames' fan knowing that the future is bright with all of these prospects.
In regards to Reinhart, I think he is a perfect 3rd line player and played really well when he got called up here for a couple of games. I think at best, he can play some 2nd line minutes for our team only if someone else gets injured in the top 6. Other than that, I can see him getting legit 3rd line minutes.
Have to wonder if Granlund makes it up as well, he was playing very well and he is good with Reinhart.

I think Reinhart can eventually become an effective top 6 player. He is a prospect that due to his very high IQ, work ethic and maturity - he just keeps developing and developing. I don't think anyone right now (even in the organization) knows what his ceiling really is. I think he will be a great 3rd liner moving forward, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he developed enough to be in a top 6 role.

Reinhart and Granlund were the two that improved my opinion the most this season. I would say Reinhart still projects as a third line checker. But he is making a case that there is more to him.

Pretty confident Burke is looking to do something with Granlund and/or Reinhart in terms of uniting them with next of kin. It could go down on draft day.

Because that is how teams get better! When their young players over-achieve and exceed expectations you should trade them to other teams for diminishing returns. Brilliant! I think that should be your new sig.
I really wish that people would move on from this sibling angle. While there is a certain level of marketing appeal to it, it really has nothing to do with hockey or making deals. Good teams don't look at birth mothers to decide if a player is worthy of bringing acquiring. They look at the quality of the player and how he projects in the NHL. I doubt that Minnesota would operate that way. Plus, they don't have much on their roster that is attractive enough for the Flames to make that deal. Where is the benefit for Calgary? The Islanders might be that desperate to help fill their new arena, but even then, what are they going to give up that has equal or better value to Max Reinhart?
You're talking about a deal of young players on the verge for other young players on the verge. From Minnesota's perspective those young players have stepped up and proven they can contribute to their team. For the Islanders, their system is so thin they don't have the goods to make a deal without hurting themselves. Neither make sense, especially for the Calgary Flames. But hey, it could make a great sig for a few months. I say go for it!

I read it the other way, but I definitely wouldn't be opposed to having all 3 Reinharts; for their potential, not just for the sake of having them. They all have remarkable upside, are still young and would play hard for the team and each other. Griffin and Sam are both top 5 picks. They'd be like our version of the Staals, except not washed-up.
The drawback is that they'd be hard to trade if we were ever facing that situation. Also we'd both need to be lucky enough to have Reinhart fall to #4, and Burke to work his magic to get Griffin. A distinct possibility but not a solid one.

If that's the case, maybe if Reinhart is left on the board at #4, he will reunite the Reinharts, but if he's drafted, we can possibly go for Mikael Granlund of the Wild. Not sure who we'd trade for Mikael though, pretty sure it'd be a hefty price for him, he is like the #2 center for Minnesota.
You never know, Burke made it happen with the Sedins, maybe we'll see something with Reinhart or Granlund. They both have really good brothers at center, and one also a defenseman in the Reinharts. Wouldn't be opposed to it at all.

Reinhart : The guy was ranked 14th on our prospect poll last summer, behind Agostino and Horak as two examples. Granlund was right ahead of him.
To be honest his ranking was pretty solid given the players that he was slotted behind, but I'm guessing the guy moves up in July when we add in new draft picks and do the list again. He had a great year.
Baertschi : Someone mentioned he's getting passed by on the left side, and while I agree, I think that's the best thing that could happen to him. So many mixed comments about attitude or not so you just don't know, but to have a summer where he was downgraded substantially, and passed over by the Swiss Olympic team has to help in getting his nose dirty in the off season. Really hoping he comes to camp and takes the story away from some of the shinier prospects.

I would say Ortio topped my list in that category - I had pretty much given up on him before this season

I could be wrong, but I don't think that lineup is anywhere near the cap floor.
