I may be way off here, but guys like Wideman and Hudler can be found in UFA market. I don't think they're worth what your asking for here. And I'm sure they'll want a first rounder

The Calgary Flames will be participating in the actual NHL this season, not EA sports NHL '14.

While I would love for the flames to get evander Kane... There's no way the flames could get him without putting baertschi as the beginning piece of the discussion.... And I really don't want to give up baertschi.

You wouldn't give up Baertschi for Kane? You nuts dude??
Baertschi might not even make our team next year and Kane is a big 30 goal scorer

Kane isn't going to be traded for Hudler/Wideman/2nd round picks, imo.
If he gets moved it will be for a similar aged/similar potential forward, imo.

I am saying that. Kane is a great talent and I think he's the exact kind of player that Burke is looking for but his attitude problems and off-ice distractions are not something Burke likes to tolerate. He has said in the past that character is an an important attribute in the players he wants on this team. Baertschi is known for his work ethic, tenacity, and his strong character on and off the ice.
I know lots of people seem to think baertschi is expendable because the flames have gaudreau... But don't forget, smaller super-skilled guys like him and Patrick Kane tend to get injured on a more regular basis. It would be nice to have both baertschi and gaudreau going forward.
I would like to have evander Kane for sure even with his apparent character flaws... But I would only want Burke to do a phaneuf-style trade to do it... Not prospects or high picks. I doubt this could happen so I would rather sit that trade out.

A lot of people leaving Granlund out. I think after another great off season he won't get outplayed at the camp and preseason.
He missed a lot of the good vibrations because of his injury but that'll only make him hungrier.

I don't see him playing in a bottom 6 role and he gets beat out by guys like Gaudreau and Hudler in the role of small, offensive focused wingers for me.
Can't see him making it as a center ahead of Stajan, Monahan and Backlund and again don't see much use for him as the 4th line guy.

I get that logic but my view is that Granlund will be too good to send down. I expect a big camp from him. Despite the hype, I don't really know where Gaudreau is with regard to immediate NHL career. He certainly doesn't have a spot secured. I guess I'm betting that Markus outplays Johnny next fall.
Looking further, as far as small skilled forwards are concerned, I think some might be traded away given how Burke feels about the team composition.

Kane upside > Sven upside
Of course it could work out that Sven turns out better than Kane, but right now, Kane is the far superior prospect and the much safer bet to work out long term. Not to mention the far superior player in the present.

This team will make a big trade or two at the draft. Burke will get an impact player coming back that we won't see coming. Hopefully a top four defenseman.
It's impossible to predict what the roster wil look like in the fall.

Yep. I see Burke offloading one of the smaller wingers perhaps in a package deal for a big forward or top 4 D. He's said again and again we're going to need to get bigger, and he's clearly not going to keep all of Byron, Gaudreau, Hudler, Sven, Cammy (if re-signs) moving ahead.
I predict at least one big unexpected move on his part to try and make us bigger, and help the rebuild cut a corner.
