Colorado doesn't deserve one single playoff win or any of their top players simply because they intentionally tanked in order to get better draft position.

Maybe Mackinnon/Roy made them that much better? Watching them tonight it would seem plausible.

Yeah, the Avs fans are another fanbase that annoys the #### out of me. Had a Cup champion dropped in their lap, and as soon as they weren't so good, they bailed on that team like the arena was on fire.
Now they're all uberfans again.
It's basically like Pittsburgh fans. Won't support the team unless there's a generational player on it. Otherwise, ghost town.

But I thought everyone that picks first overall is automatically the Oilers and bad forever?
No one ever said drafting first guaranteed you would suck - that is garbage. All people said was that it guarantees nothing.
Also, no one ever suggested that you wouldn't get a good player if you draft first - but it is a team game.
And let's not get carried away here - Colorado hasn't won the cup yet.
Having said all that - I have been a huge proponent of MacKinnon's from the get go. Argued that there was no question you take him first.
Also argued that he should have been invited to the Olympic team. In 06 they didn't invite Crosby and it was criticized after they lost. They won gold this year so no one will criticize or discuss other decisions. But I said he should have been the 13th forward. Would have been better than Kunitz or St Louis IMO.
Have also been saying that he is going to be the second best player in the league as soon as next year. Maybe I should have said this spring.
They actually had a sellout crowd for the longest time. Once they started sucking the fans didn't come though.
Still, they did tank....and I hate them for it.
Actually, they stopped selling out very quickly, but their team BS'd the numbers for years, (I know many teams do, but this was of another order) until media started calling them out for empty seats.
Media started taking pictures of entire sections of seats not occupied for entire games, and then the AV's admitted their sellout streak ended years ago and started reporting accurately.
When that happened, their attendance went from 18,007 every night to the 13k range almost immediately.
