Not really, It's my money and I can choose to spend it however I please, is that ok with you?
Not to long ago, you could shell out $60 for a game and actually have the game in its entirety. You got a completed game that was hopefully not full of bugs and balance issues, and you didn't have to continuously buy DLC's and expansions. Maybe a few years later an expansion would come out and it would actually have some content in it.
What do you even get for the $15 DLC, a couple maps and a few items skins? Why are these things not included in the original game? How come all of a sudden things like MAPS are now something you have to pay more for. They should be releasing minor updates like those just keep selling the original game.
Maybe some people just don't like being nickle'd and dimed for everything. And ya big shocker that I want to say my 20 cents about EA games in a thread about EA games, I know, craziness. No need to get sanctimonious about people saying they don't like something.
I don't care how you spend your money. However, I am tired of seeing the same asinine comments about DLC. They've been charging for map packs for a long time now so don't make it sound like this is something that's come out of the blue all of a sudden.
BF4 is a complete game. You don't have to buy the DLC to continue playing the game. You've got these rose tinted glasses on about the good old days of gaming. Complete games? They had these things called expansion packs that cost the same price as new game. And the only reason those expansion took so long to come out is because it wouldn't have been feasible for developers to release a few maps at a time given that everything had to be put on a CD and shipped. DLC is no different then expansion packs only that with the internet, developers can now distribute that content more quickly and in smaller chunks.
BF1942 Road to Rome added, what 6 new maps. 8 in Secret Weapons of WWII. Each were $30 if I recall so you would have paid $60 for 14 new maps.
BF4 Premium cost $50 (less if you were patient) and you get 20 new maps. Seems like a better deal to me.
You don't want to pay for maps? That's fine. That's absolutely your right and you can continue to play your vanilla game with no problem. There are tons of servers that run the original maps. But they're never going to stop charging for them at this point. That ship sailed a long time ago.

First of all I'm certain at least 3 of the 4 new maps in the last bf4 DLC are just rehashed maps from battlefield 3. So they are not releasing new content.
And you are right that this is the way EA is going, that's why I jumped ship to counter strike global offensive. Game costs $15 bucks, Valve still releases new maps, they let the community make new ones and if you want to play them right off the bat in competitive mode is costs something like $2. Which you can easily make from just selling the skins you find in game. So no I don't think that nickle and diming gamers for content is the way of the future.

Valve is very much the exception. Virtually every other company charges for similar content. Epic, Activision Blizzard, Ubisoft, Capcom and yes EA. You can say it's not the future all you want. It's already happened and it's standard practice within the industry now.
Not particular to EA the company, but I do enjoy a selection of games they put out. Saw the Command & Conquer collection on for $10, couldn't pass it up. So many memories playing the original Red Alert, and have never played the third one.
Months of entertainment for $10? Yes, please.

After getting burned on the Sim City fiasco, EA will never get a single cent from me either. Luckily, that means if I really want to play their games, I can still buy it used lol. Nothing of note has caught my attention to even do that recently though.

It's really got nothing to do with being self-righteous. Are you saying if you got bad service and bad quality food from a restaurant, you're not within your right to boycott the place and tell others of your experience?

That particular restaurant sure, but I wouldn't avoid the whole chain.
I got burned on SimCity just like a lot of you, so I just didn't buy any more Sim City xpacs. Sure as hell doesn't mean I won't buy a sweet game like Titanfall.
At that point, I'd just be depriving myself on principle. Video games (and most entertainment) doesn't deserve to be ignored on principle. That's just silly.

To each their own I guess. I avoid EA at this point not necessarily because of the Sim City game itself. Sim City was more like a last straw in a string of problems than an isolated event (both within this game and their other IPs).
And really... I'm not depriving myself. If I really wanted to, I can play most of their games by buying used without giving them a cent lol. Getting too old to keep up with the latest and greatest these days anyway
I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum. Every year I tell myself not to buy any more versions of Madden until they fix the stuff that pisses me off. Then I get sucked in by the previews and reviews, and then end up being pissed at myself. That being said, this year's version was pretty good.

I think boycotting a publisher/developer and potentially missing out on great games because you got burned once is pretty stupid. Ya, by all accounts SimCity was a terrible game. My spider sense was tingling within minutes of booting up the beta.
This isn't necessarily directed at you but one of the lessons people need to learn is that pre ordering games is for suckers. There is very little benefit in buying a game before it releases. Any discount or pre-order DLC can be had later once you've made an informed decision based on reviews and impressions. This is especially true on PC where discounts come up often.
Perhaps it's just me but I've noticed many developers lately (not just EA) are running with the attitude of release a game in a buggy mess and fix it post launch. It's pretty easy to avoid this kind of garbage if you wait to see what kind of state a game is in when it releases.

I personally avoid most games at initial release because they are almost never 100% SLI compatible, so I'll usually putter around for a few weeks until NVidia or the Developer (or both) release a driver/patch that makes it run properly.
Debate aside, I'm so sad what they've done to Dungeon Keeper.
I'm not a big fan of F2P. Which of course begs the reply: "Nobody is forcing you to play it/spend money on it."
Which then goes back to the choice that customers have to speak with their money. And their choice to avoid that game and the ones that EA makes in general. Free market forces I guess.
