How many times do you need to see a guy who can only score 40 points in the German Elite league to know that he doesn't have the skill to contribute at the NHL level?

What I am missing? Is it the bad luck that stops him from being up their with league leaders Adam Courchaine, Steve Reinprecht and Kevin Clark? The super skill he shows only to be stoned by stud goalies Tomas Duba, Dennis Endras and Tyler Weimann? Or is it the endless amount of guys coming over from the DEL and having a ton of success at the NHL level?

Look at what Michael Raffl did with the Flyers this year and then look at the league he played in last year.

Oh, I think theres more to it than that. This guy is considered one of the best and a very influential player in the DEL. I think his team game and attitude have a lot to do with his contract with Calgary.

Hes not just another goon coming in to punch faces, but he can and will punch faces if he has to. Its a very big part of the Flames' identity under Burke, being able to play and punch faces.

I love your expertise at statistical analysis. Everyone else should just quit and go home as you've clearly got this.

You're right, 40 points in the DEL is pathetic. How many games do they play again? 82? No, thats right, they only play 52.

His point totals couldnt have anything to do with the style his team plays or the quality of his linemates and even if it didnt, you're right, there is absolutely zero possibility that the guy can grow, learn or improve in any manner whatsoever. He simply is what he is and you take him at that.

A complete waste of assets to acquire him. Good thing the Flames didnt spend any.

If anything it further shows that these guys coming over don't offer much at all and this is a guy who had more offensive success.

There are plenty of guys that can pinch people in the face and play the game of hockey as well. These guys are far from a rare thing and one of the easiest things to find in the game. Especially now that the HW are basically out of the game and you can be 215 lbs and still be an effective enforcer in the league.

Who said it was a waste of time?

I have no problem with the signing if they do it I just don't expect this guy to do anything at the NHL level and think his impact will be with the AHL team.

Flyers fan have loved what Raffl has brought in a bottom 6 role. He wasn't brought in to put up points.

Guys like Raffl/Wolf are not being brought over to put up offense.

Offensive ability in lesser leagues usually show hockey skill for guys moving into the NHL. That is because even the plugs in the NHL are skilled hockey players.

You rarely see guys have success in the NHL with poor offensive in lesser/lower leagues. Wolf has pretty weak numbers even for the DEL and that means it is unlikely that he has the skill to be successful at the NHL role even in a bottom 6 role. Face punchers/agitators (especially good ones) need to be able to make passes, clear the zone and read the play.

Any 6'0 200+lb agitator/enforcer hybrids with a bit of a scoring touch hitting UFA this year? Because if there is, I'm pretty sure Wolf would come cheaper.

Are you basing his skills of stat reading? How many times have you personally watched him play?

The NHLE for the DEL is .52

So 40 pts in 52 games equates to 32 pts in the NHL right?

On average, but the problem with NHLe is that the standard deviation is huge.

I am sure there are a bunch of guys in the AHL that fit the bill but will have to check other than that in the NHL guys that would be pretty cheap:

Michael Rupp
Kris Newbury
Colin Fraser
Zenon Konopka
Kris Barch
Mike Brown
Dan Carcillo
Cody Mccormick
Troy Bodie
Shawn Thornton

 |
Wolf is 24/25 and still has room to improve, unlike the guys you listed above.

I'm sure Burke thinks Wolf has NHL potential, because I don't he would bring him over from Germany to just play in the AHL, although he may start there next year.

Also Burke likely cant comment on Wolf until the signing becomes official.

I'm not familiar with NHLe as a stat.

40/52 = 0.77PPG x 82 = 63 points over 82 games.

The stats arent really comparable because the two leagues arent really comparable.

I look at Wolf as a cheap/free asset. If he doesnt work out then nothing ventured, nothing gained. Its not like David Wolf is going to be the poor contract that put the Flames against the cap that cost them the cup.

Much ado about nothing. He either works out and we gain something for nothing but cash or he doesnt and he moves on.
