An extra million would make that worry go away.

He spent years of pain in Colorado, it's starting to pay off there. Why would he want to go through another rebuild?! Lol

I would think Stastny would want to stay in Colorado. After his heroics in game 1 I would think the Avs would want to keep him around as well!
He's already on $6.6 million. How much more money would he be worth on the UFA market?

He signed with Dallas 2 years ago so I think he chases the money first and foremost

My wish list
1. Vanek. Won't happen though, I see him getting a deal done with Montreal before UFA. An elite first line player that is still young enough he could be around when we go for a Cup.
2. Statsny. Who cares how much middling depth we have, if you can get a bonafide top 6 centre who is still young you do it. Don't think he will come here though and strong chance he stays in Colorado.
3. Callahan. Again, think he will sign in TB. Big strong RW who is a good leader, exactly what the Flames need and we have the cap to pay him.
4. Andej Meszaros: Has had injury problems in the past few years but if we can move Wideman and snag this guy and he stays healthy could be a great piece going forward. Has good tool box
5. Niskanen. Would be a great snag to replace Butler. Great D man for the price.

I know we're all looking a at big names here but I suspect the Flames will end up mainly adding size and grit through FA. I could see guys like Tanner Glass, Orpik, Englland coming here to add size to the bottom end of the roster and grit to the roster

I would enjoy that, Glass would be a great addition to the bottom six. Orpik and Engelland would be good too, but not both.

I just looked at Penguins capgeek, they have 11 UFA's and 5 RFA's to sign in the offseason with a projection of 15,000,000 in space. Wow does Shero have some work ahead for himself!!

The only way I'd be comfortable trading Sven is in a package for Evander Kane. Unfortunately, Kane isn't going for less than multiple blue chips and a first. Which I want no part of. Work your magic, Burke.

Halak and Elliot have had every opportunity to be The Guy in St Louis, and that team has the best defense in the league. They are backups, the caveat being they are two of the very best backups in the league.
So we should overpay a bit and get one of them.

Flames should be offering massive short term contracts to anyone they think can help the team/young players. Its not very often an NHL team is going to have tens of millions of dollars in available cap space.
I find it odd that people still complain about "overpaid" players like Wideman when the team is not using the cap space in has in the first place

These are a few players I'd want the Flames to consider, a few in each category (ones underlined are my preference):
Top 6 Forwards: Vrbata (RW), Gaborik (RW) , Stastny (C), Vanek (LW), Michalek (LW)
Bottom 6 Forwards: Ott (C), Downie (RW), Penner (LW), Glass/Pyatt (LW)
Top 4 D: Niskanen or Meszaros
5/6 D: Greene, Morris, Butler (just because he knows the system and got better).
Goalies: Elliott, Emery, Vokoun (ones who can play starter if Ramo gets injured).
RFA's to look at:
Johansen, C (CBJ) - Offer this guy 4-5m, make Columbus accept it.
Gudbranson, D (FLA) - Not sure what to offer him, but he'd be a good addition for our D.
Krug, D (BOS) - Would love to steal this guy if we could, but he's pretty much a lock for Boston.
Kuemper, G (MIN) - Has played pretty good, but Bryz took his minutes.
I know none of those RFA's will most likely not go with us, but I would love to somehow get Johansen if we offered outrageous money for him like we did with O'Reilly.
He will be a superstar, and he even has a RH shot!

An absolute NO to any RFA offer sheets that might cost us our 1st round pick next year. Way too risky.

Not even for Johansen? One who is really starting to prove himself as a top NHLer?
The O'Reilly sheet was atrocious, but I don't think the Johansen one would be.

I was fine with the O'Reilly sheet (as were most) other than the whole losing him to waivers thing...he is an amazing player
