Not much further from Calgary than Abbotsford was, but much, much closer to the rest of the AHL teams.

Much of a market for hockey in North Dakota? I know they back their college hockey there.
Wow, this map is whack. Could you imagine traveling from Abby to St John's for a game?

There might be a team in Winnipeg for a season or two after 2015, so another club that would be close to Fargo. Only issue with Fargo is no direct flights to Calgary; you probably have to go east or south to go to Calgary. I think they would support it, though.

Default City of Abbotsford terminating contract with the Heat. Heat are moving.

If they are hellbent on being in Canada and St.John's is considered too far away, one market not served by any major junior teams is Fredericton. I know UNB gets decent crowds out there, but I'm not sure if the arena is up to AHL standards.

You could also look at Cornwall, Ontario. They used to have the Avs farm team, I believe Hartley actually coached there.

What about Barrie, ON?
I would LOVE them to be within an easy drive from Toronto

Fredericton is a UNB city.

The AHL was there and it didn't work (also it's a REALLY small market).

The AHL is dead in the Maritimes. Going from an entire division (plus St. John's) to nothing at all.

I don't believe the Canadians, or Senators really took off with a lot of support. The Oilers and then Citadels weren't supported in Halifax. The way the Oilers left Cape Breton left a very sour taste in the mouths of people here (the team itself is looked back on with nostalgia). The Wildcats seem to have taken a hold of Moncton. Saint John I can't comment on but keep in mind Saint John is owned by the McCains, Moncton is owned by the Irving's, those teams aren't going anywhere. Halifax has no desire for the AHL, and when the Mooseheads are winning they are #1 by a long shot. Mind you, when they were are losing the Rainmen were drawing about the same attendance (slightly less).

If you're looking at Atlantic Canada, St. John's is the only option. The only city that wants and supports the AHL. Junior hockey didn't work there.

If Calgary is looking for a stop gap it could work on the Rock. Plus their team president is Danny Williams, he's adored in Alberta!

If the rumours of the WHL moving into Winnipeg are true, I find that decidedly unlikely.

What about a city like Omaha, Lincoln (Nebraska) or KC? Maybe if they move to Omaha they can get Warren Buffett and Berkshire to throw some funds at the team.

Brampton just lost the Battalion, that could be an option? I highly doubt that with their piss-poor attendance in the OHL that the Flames would be doing cartwheels over the opportunity to move there though.

Cornwall would probably be the most viable non-OHL city, in my opinion.

Just a tiny one. I think I may have heard of it once or twice.

The Fort will be a serious contender for a team fairly soon, but I think they'll want to stick to WHL. The travel for AHL would be brutal.

Can we not poach the Boise Steelheads ECHL team, keep the good proximity Calgary, and stay in the rumored Pacific Division?

I say we give Fargo a flyer with an AHL team. I figure it'll be a nice trade off for them letting us act as Fargo for the FX TV show.

If the rumours of a western conference is true I could see Reno being a good choice. They have a newer building(2005) that seats 7,000, may have to put in an ice plant? Don't know how well it is serviced by air but don't think it would be much a problem.

Since the Flames already said that they are open to a temporary home if there is not perfect place to relocate to now, I think they should try Quebec.

The fans there are going to want to prove themselves to the NHL, so it would probably be a good temporary home until they get an NHL franchise back. Plus, they will want a tenant for that new arena.

I don't think Quebec City new arena will be ready until the Fall of 2015. Plus I don't think they will get too excited about watching a farm team of Alberta NHL club.

Yeah, I was thinking they would play in the old arena until then.

I am not sure people in Quebec City would really care that much to be honest. I think the average person doesn't care much about those politics. Give them a French name and a Fleur de Lis shoulder patch, and I think they would be fine.
