Personally, I think that's kind of perfect. He brings the peace without needing to hurt people (much).

Yes.

You don't see anyone running our goalies anymore either. That's one of the things that has really bugged me and shows a total lack of respect from the other teams.

I have a lot of respect for McGrattan. He's defeated his personal demons and has returned to the Flames as a great presence both on and off the ice. He seems to have bonded with the youngsters and can take a regular shift without embarrassing himself. I hope he sticks around for awhile.

I read the headline as McGrattan ranks in top five fighters in the league. I was all like who made this stupid list he's not the fifth best fighter he is number one!

You mean the role for guys that score from centre ice?

I love how Monahan is his usual straight-faced and monotone self in this video, but cracks up as soon as someone mentions McGrattan:

Yup, the boys are in good hands with Big Ern policing the ice.

Seems to be a great guy off the ice as well. Has a hell of a shot from center ice as well

edit: beaten to the punch

Anyone that had less than 25 games played prior to the start of the 2013-14 season has to wear a visor from now on.

Maybe there's a "Gurney Ern'y" joke somewhere we can embrace. Fight Big Ern, there's a gurney waiting to take you home.

With him beating his demons I hope he can help keep our kids away from substance abuse as well

That's a huge lesson and probably a very underrated one as well. Helping these kids have a balanced personal life and a fulfilling one I would imagine helps to pay dividends on the ice and create athletes who are good role models.

McGrattan is probably #1 ATM, but I remember seeing him get completely schooled by Derek Boogaard..he was an absolute beast, rip.
