Is there any precedence for a premier (or any other government official) having such a suite built? I know at the federal level we have long standing official residence (24 sussex drive) available to the PM and I believe the official opposition has an official residence available to them as well.

But is there any other case where they'd take a mix use/office building and put in a residence of any kind? It could certainly be argued that for a role that serves terms of 4 years having an official residence in the provincial capital makes some sense, but wouldn't it be better in the long term to purchase a single family home that can accommodate more than 2 people? You know, in case a future premier has a family of 6 or something?

Whole thing is weird.

Alison Redford ordered penthouse suite in Federal Building

More Kafka from her highness.

"The design also specifies “sleeping and grooming quarters with clothing storage for an adult and one teenager (separate is preferable).” Redford has a young daughter."

Had we kept Redford in the premier chair a little while longer, we might have home grown Alberta princess in her daughter.

One of twists of history: If Redford Skypalace had gone ahead, what would @DaveHancockMLA have done with a powder room?

“I didn't feel that a residence was in the public interest and I made it clear right away that it wouldn't happen and that was it,” said McIver. “It's quite sad that Ms. Redford thought it was acceptable to change order, to put this suite in the federal building for her to use.”

“It's just unbelievable.”

Redford would interview and hire, then pass it over to an HR manager to work out the details. The pay, vacation time, expense account, car allowance, etc. would have to be within the province's pay scale. If they agree on details that are within provincial requirements, the contract is signed. If not, it goes back to the premier for authorization. This only applies to the premier's staff.

Wow, if this had been only a few times and she paid it back then fine. But this is all out abuse and shows that Redford was pretty much corrupt, that's based on the fact that she knew that she was flying people out on the long weekend and didn't bring that forward. On top of that if she wasn't doing government business in Jasper and she was flying out her administrative assistant that's even worse.

No wonder she's too chickensh%t to actually show up and occupy her seat, you know the one that she's still collecting a salary on.

The whole thing is dirty, she's not only one of the most incompetent people that's ever occupied that seat, but she's also the biggest con artist.

Is she going to stay on as an MLA?
I think it would be a fitting end to her political career if she continued to collect a paycheck for a few years without showing up and then taking the severance pay on her way out.

She could show up. But if she's not doing any real work except putting in the face time, what difference does it make? I hate that I was right in reading her to be a fraud. But this is democracy, we got what we deserved for putting her on the pedestal.

then she should do the right thing and resign her seat and not continue to get paid for not representing her constituents.

she doesn't want to show up in the legislature because she'll get hammered on, so since she's not going to do any government business her party should pressure he to GTFO.

Its funny but she's put herself on the same level as the Ontario Liberal Party and their corruption allegations.

This is what happens when people use strategic voting. This women has never actually won a campaign. She backdoored Mar and then used the anyone but Wildrose tactic to stay in government. Why wouldn't she think she could build a sky palace or fly where ever she want with whomever. She free rolled herself into government and basically walked away with no consequences, a big fat salary and paid vacation until her term is up.

She is my MLA and i hope there is someone representing us soon. Her office in Lincoln Park closed... not sure what that means though.

Funny how her party was proabaly her biggest victim. The PC never wanted her to be the leader when she was voted in by those 5 minute teachers union tories.

Once she was at the helm, her party can't give her the boot until the irraparable damages were done. At the same time, Redford had a huge hand in making the WR relevant in Alberta today. Life is funny, really.

I don't know where else to ask, but say I have to head somewhere for work and drive with my family, is that OK with you guys that I will write that mileage off? That seems like something I would do and not think twice about actually.

But without her there is a zero percent chance the Wild Rose has of wining an election. All that direct Redford criticism blew up in their face.

If I was driving my kid to school if I had a kid, I wouldn't be able to expense those km's as that's part of my personal travel.

Now if I took a vacation, took the company car and tried to expense the vacation travel time I would be fired.

Funny how her fellow MLA's never told her the sky palace was a bad idea. Or cautioned her on her travel expenses and entitled lifestyle as the premier. Nobody had her back and basicly let her go down as the worst premier ever.
