Really? Huh, thought Trotz would be there until the day he retired... he won't be out of work long (unless by choice).

Too broken I think. Toronto would be his best bet as there's at least potential there. However, working in Nashville for that long, going to Toronto might be a culture shock he just isn't interested in.

I really liked Trotz. I felt like he was doing good in Nashville. But, I guess you move on. I really hope the Canucks don't get him.

They have offered him another position within the organization, interesting to see if he takes it or wants to continue head coaching.

Teams will be calling right away for this guy. Don't see him being available for long. Leafs should make a strong push for him.

Really really dumb move by a franchise in decline.

I would LOVE for the oilers to sign him. I'm sure he'd turn them into a perennial 9-11 place team.

Excellent first step for the Preds IMO, to changing the culture there.

Step two, trade Shea Weber to the Flames.

Washington is tough. Hunter just basically wouldn't play Ovi when they had the lead. He was only there for half a year but I couldn't imagine a full time coach doing that would go over well with Ovi and the franchise is still really tied to him.

But is changing the culture a good thing? Trotz was squeezing wine out if turnips and was pretty successful as a coach in all his years there all things considered.

I think Washington is basically the Iggy situation at the end of his tenure on Calgary on steroids.

Iggy wasn't buying in, and judging by the differences this year if affected the team. Ovechkin is way worse in this regard, and teams will follow their "leader"

Good idea, but who could the Flames send back that would help with that culture change? I mean, the country club was cleaned out last summer.

If the Predators really want to change their culture in a hurry, they might have to trade Weber to the Oilers. Plenty of snivelling losers up there to help Nashville start the de-build.

This also now slaps Nashville right squarely in the McDavid sweepstakes. Teams with new coaches in the first year usually blow chunks.

I doubt any of the really good available coaches are going to go to a team with a coach killing zero effort core like the Oilers where the players spend half of the season trying to get the coach fired.

To be honest, if I was asked to coach in Edmonton I would want a 10 year long guaranteed contract and want a salary that = the highest played coach in the NFL (yes NFL) + 10%

I think if Edmonton fires Eakins its going to be tough for them to get a experienced coach.

would be perfect for NYI. They're likely a top 10 offense with a healthy Tavares. Desperately need better team D

can you imagine Trotz, a defense-first coach who absolutely loves two-way forwards, going to Edmonton and having to deal with this great collection of young players who are absolutely horrible in their own zone. That'd be gold, Jerry! Gold!

The thing with coaches like Trotz and Tippet is that they play boring systems in dead hockey markets. I suppose that could have something to do with this.

He gets the most out of what little he has. Nashville will never be a high spending team.
