2 minute penalty... Maybe. That's all it should have been.

Shouldn't be, but with a non-star injuring a star player, we'll probably see 1 - 3 games.

If the phrase wasn't so annoyed I'd say Hockey Play. Without the injury occurring, that play happens multiple times a game ... and having watched for it, I saw it take place throughout the rest of the game.
Short answer, even taking politics into it, is NO.

When Sedin is released from hospital with no major injuries (maybe a minor concussion?), the NHL will not issue any supplemental discipline on Byron.

Stephane Quintal is the new judge.
Nothing malicious there. The major penalty should be enough, but as Shanahan did at the outset, the new head disciplinarian might want to make his mark.

I think it should be a game, mainly for the reasons I laid out in the GT thread. I really believe hits from behind are still one of the most dangerous plays you could do on the ice, and this hit showed how even a small hit from one of the smallest players in the entire league can do damage, because of how dangerous the hit is. Especially when the players are 3 feet out from the boards, you just can't hit a guy there when his numbers are facing you.
This hit was not a "bad" hit from behind at all, it wasn't malicious and the result was mainly accidental, but it should still be suspended because it's dangerous.

he will get something and probably should get 1 or 2, but that is a classic case of Sedin putting himself in harms way. He looked a Byron, then turned his back to him two feet from the boards.
But Byron does have to keep is own body under control and not hurt people.

I hope not but seeing its a "no name" player and a "star" I'll bet he does

Frankly, I believe guys who put themselves into those positions deserve suspensions as well. Sedin knew he was going to get hit and made no effort at all to protect himself.

No suspension should happen. Hope Daniel is good but this wasn't a dirty hit.

It was more an unfortunate event then malicious hit. Funny thing is there are a few replays of the hit. The one that makes it appear worse then it was is the one making the rounds. The gifs I saw in the other thread show it wasn't malicious. It almost looks like his helmet caught a seam in the glass.

Nothing malicious there at all. Hit was a little from behind, but Sedin was incredibly unlucky to be injured on that play given the lack of force behind it and how mentioned earlier how barely from behind it was. We likely see close to half a dozen hits like that each game that don't result in penalties or injuries.
That said, I wouldn't be opposed to the league throwing a couple games Byron's way because I do like making players really think twice along the boards in those situations, except for the fact, that if they did throw him a couple of games it will be because it was a Sedin, and because there was a scary moment, not for the right reasons. And you can bet there would be no consistency moving forward on similar plays, which will make it very frustrating should he get any games.

Should it? No. will it? Maybe.
I give you the hit from burrows on mcdonagh though; where was the suspension for what was, in every material way, a more dangerous and more intent filled hit?
No one wants to see injuries and everyone is hoping that all of the medical team's actions were precautionary and sedin is healthy. I personally have no problems with precautionary actions like that.
It did seem though as if sedin's head twisted a bit, and then he fell awkwardly; both legs and both skates high in the air was an odd position to be in on the ice.
What does the wheel of justice say?

Maybe one game. Still didn't like the hit. Even though Sedin should be more aware and protect himself for the hit, Byron pushes him in a very dangerous area, and from behind.

Daniel put himself in a vulnerable position and bears some responsibility for that. He knew he was going to get hit so why he did that is beyond me.
