You'd trade the 4th overall pick for Edler? Is there a joke here that I'm missing?

I think the Islanders win today, but I don't see any way we lose to the Canucks. They are in complete "screw it" mode.

Andrew Weiss of Future Considerations talks about some USHL draft eligibles:
http://www.thepipelineshow.com/clips...eiss_Apr12.mp3
Summary
C/RW Alex Tuch 6'3'' 216lbs Shoots R
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=178526 - FC has him ranked 16
- thought he was average early in the season, but has been the best draft eligible player in the last half of the season
- his ability to play with skilled forwards doesn't get enough credit
- plays with Eichel and Milano, not easy guys to play with because of their speed and offensive, but does a great job complimenting that line with his own speed and big presence
- already physically mature at 6'4'' 220lbs
- not only can he hit and win puck battles along the walls and provide size for the skilled players, he has own offensive ability
- talks about his last viewing of Tuch and his mind was blown that a guy that big could do what he did
- difference between him and Michael McCarron - Tuch is a little more finess than McCarron. definately a better skater than McCarron and offensively more gifted. other than the physical ability there is no real comparisson between them
D Josh Jacobs 6'2'' 194lbs Shoots R
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=168704- he is always going to be a puck moving D that starts the rush that is able to make the smart pass
- but in the offensive zone doesn't think game will translate into someone that puts up a lot of assists and points
- probably do a lot of things offensively that won't show up on the scoresheet at the next level
- great breakouts and able to find the smart play to stretch the ice
- ability to join the rush has been impressive
- mid-season he was lackluster, but now in the playoffs his confidence is sky high and almost looks like he has outgrown the USHL
- have him ranked as a 2nd/3rd round guy, thinks he will go 2nd round based on his all around game
D Ryan Mantha 6'5'' 225lbs Shoots R
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=203339- thinks he will be a 5th/6th round guy
- start of the year a lot of people liked him (Central scouting had him ranked as a "B" prospect for this year's draft)
- one aspect of the game that he lacks is his puck skills and can be turnover prone at times
- trade to Indiana has helped him as coach Jeff Brown is helping turn his game around
- slowly starting to see consistencies in his game
- starting to become a physical player using his big frame a 6'5''
- hard to pass up on his size and ability to play in his own end, particuarly in the middle of the ice, he blocks a lot of shots and is a real effective PKer
also talks about G E. Minney and a few sleeper picks but I am not going to summarize that

I also agree with Moon. The Islanders have to take their pick this year, try to get a goalie in the summer, and try to make the playoffs next year.
Waving their pick says they think they are going to be worse next year.

come on. They have Sebastien 'frickin' Collberg after the Vanek trade. No further upgrading required.

Nope. Those 2 guys, Draisatl and Dal Colle do not interest me much. Would rather have a top pairing 27 year old D making 5 million for 5 more years.

who's -38 or whatever and has a bad back
if you don't like those guys, draft someone else. But trading for Edler is ridiculous

Uh, boo.
That's about the opposite of how smart teams rebuild. You're much more likely to get more production out of Draisaitl or Dal Colle than you would out of Edler, by far.

Then why are you interested in Edler?
He is an overpaid, 2nd pairing d-man with little to no upside and likely to be closer to a 5/6 d-man than top 4 by the time the Flames are ready to compete.
Edler for our 2nd would piss me off let alone Edler for a top 4 pick, that would be a disaster.

NHL Central Scouting's Dan Marr on 630 ched
https://soundcloud.com/630ched/oiler...s/oilers-now-1
very fine line that distinguishes top 4 kids
Bennett:- likes the way he can elevate his game when it matters the most, in central scouting's opinon the best at doing that
- think Sam Bennett can play Toews type game
- his size and frame are not a concern in their projections going forward
- has same characteristics as Gilmour
Ekblad:- scouts were waiting to see his offensive side of the game develop
- his shot has become much more powerful and accurate
Reinhart:- hockey iq is the best in the draft class
- will take what is given to him and capatalize on it
Draisaitl:- big rugged center that can dominate
- going to be a Joe Thorton type player
- very strong playmaker, good puck skills, strong on the puck, hard to check
Dal Colle:- offensive forward with high end skillset, very versatile and consistent
- plays with energy and focus
- just lacking strength, scary part is how good he can be once he gets stronger, potential could go through the roof
Virtanen:- one of the strongest skaters
- he is the hardest guy to check, can power his way through players to the net
- probably going to have more goals than assists in his career
- not going to be the best playmaker
- has got the hockey sense to find a way to always be open like Brett Hull
- he can agitate when he wants to
Scherbak:- real dynamic skater and player
- quick to read and react to plays
- can make something out of nothing
- consumate team player
- loves the game
Ehlers:- underweight
- very focused player, professional approach to the game
- high end speed
- puck skills, anticipation and reaction time is all good
- got a scoring touch can see the ice quick
- will burn you if you give him the opportunity
Nylander:- been bounced around different teams
- nobody is denying he has outstanding skills and is a very fast and quick skater
- his puck handling and shot are up there with the best of the draft class
- competes to score, not the most responsible two way player yet
Kapanen:- far more responsible player than Nylander
- good speed good hockey sense
- Finnish players have this grit to their game where they gut it out and Kapanen has that
2014 draft first round is pretty decent, but it isn't as deep when you get into the later rounds its going to be spread out

Hurricanes win in a shootout so Vancouver has no incentive to tank, apart from general suckiness. Perhaps they'll try to win one for the home fans. Isles are tied with Buffalo in the third. Hope they win. If they do perhaps we can play tonight's game with no blades to our sticks and pull our goalie after the first period!
