Default Question re: tie breakers

Can't figure this one out...

Please explain the tie breaker between Columbus and Philly. If Philly loses today, I thought that Columbus would pass them because they have more wins. However, all reports I have read say that Philly winning yesterday clinches them 3rd place in the metro division.

It's all in the Regulation/OT wins, not total wins.

Edit: Yes, Columbus has more wins. However, Philadephia has more wins in regulation and OT. Shootout wins do not count towards the tie-breaker.

Thanks, yeah I was wondering the same thing, but in regards to Detroit clinching even though Washington could still tie them in points and have more total wins.

Asked this in another thread but didn't get an answer.

I get the first round, the top division winning team plays the lower wildcard and the other two division teams play each other. The winner of the top seed series plays the winner of the 2-3 series even if the wildcard team wins and is from another division.

My question is in regards to the second round. If the wildcard team beats the #1 seed and faces the #2 team then I assume the home ice advantage is still based on who has more points?

Example: Based on current standings the Pacific division would be:
Anaheim (home) vs Dallas
San Jose (home) vs L.A.

If Dallas and San Jose won their respective series then the second round would be San Jose (home) vs Dallas correct?

Thanks in advance.

Home-ice advantage through the first two rounds goes to the team that placed higher in the regular-season standings. In the Conference Finals and Stanley Cup Final, home-ice advantage goes to the team that had the better regular-season record -- regardless of the teams' final standing in their respective divisions.

I hope that helps.

Correct, the same way if an 8th seed team won before they would have to face the highest rated team in the next round. Except here it stays within the division. Think of the seeding as 1-4 in 'new divisions' instead of thinking about the wild card.

Uh, I'm not quite sure that's right to say because of one unusual circumstance.

Imagine a season where the "Pacific division" playoffs had the following teams make it:

(P) Vancouver - 110
(P) Edmonton - 100
(P) Calgary - 90
Wildcard - (C) Chicago- 95

If Chicago beats Vancouver and Calgary beats Edmonton I believe Calgary, despite having less points than Chicago, gets the home ice advantage in the next round because they finished "higher" in the standings.

Actually no Yeah, they would be treated the same as a 3rd seed team that finished with less points than a 4th or a 5th seed team it has to face in the 2nd round( in the previous CBA). The 3rd place team would still keep the home ice advantage. Essentially points only played a role in the stanley cup final once the seeding was set. Now the same way within the divisional playoffs only seeding decides who gets the home advantage. The conference finals, and stanley cup home advantage will be decided by points though.

Pretty sure you're agreeing with me there.
