Cammalleri is a .75 ppg career scorer.
This season .71, last season .72, etc
Obviously a players ppg will drop eventually as their career draws to a close, but I expect we will see the same consistent production he has shown throughout his career.

Warrener and Boomer on the FAN960 have both heard that there is now a chance Cammi re-signs in Calgary.

Warrener said he is thinking its a better than 50% chance - whereas before he got this info, it was less than 10%.

Burke must think he can sign Cammy. I know he wanted a 1st or at least a 2nd round pick and he said no to a 3rd round pick. But, all picks can have incredible value. Flames just signed two 4th round picks, including J Gaudreau...just sayin

Gaudreau
Baertschi
Klimchuk
Poirier
Granlund
(possibly Dal Colle)

... Cammy who?

I like Cammallari, but it's time to move on. He's taking up a roster spot from one of our kids.

Only reason to move on from Cammy is if you want to tank next year for a top 3 pick. In which case you might as well trade Gio as well. He is our top scorer and part of the leadership group here. None of our rookies are even close to his calibre yet.

I'm ok if he stays. I'm ok if he goes. I like Cammy. I love the flames.

The only thing that worries me is health and size.

Everytime Cammy played, I was scared he was hurt (true mostly because it would hurt his trade value, justifiably).

I know Burke wants size, and a lot of our up and coming players lack that(as well as many already graduated. Byron, baertschi, Gaudreau, hudler, Russell, in addition to Cammy).
I have to think that at least a little bit of skill is moving on in favour of size, especially if Cammy is brought back. Specifically Hudler and Baertchi.

I honestly believe this team can compete for playoffs next year, with a few breaks and improvements. That's not the goal though. The goal is the cup. If Burke believes in Cammy as leadership, then I'm ok with it. But as I said, I expect some "close to NHL ready" small guys, or current small guys to go. And I believe that's the right move.

This. I don't understand why most people expect regression next year. Nothing in the second half of this season points to that being the case.

Winning without any pressure is easier

Gio's emergence as a Norris trophy calibre defenceman. Can he and Brodie repeat as such a fantastic top pairing

Who replaces the offence when/if Cammalleri moves on.

I suppose there are other questions, but these are some. Recall that the Oilers a couple times enjoyed significant late season success that never translated the next season.

It's actually only the last third, and if you look historically at bottom ten teams who turned it on at the end of a season, it means nothing the following year

Very true and it may apply to the Flames as well as it would anyone else...but

This kind of success has been going on much longer than just "late season".

Since the line brawl in Vancouver in mid january (which was clearly a catalyst for the club to become a "team"), they have played well over .500 hockey...almost half the season.

Clearly this team is not quite a contender at this point and wont be next year either, but they really aren't as far away as one would have thought at the beginning of the season. Its not like a bunch of stuff just started going right for them all of a sudden, this team has worked for everything they have received. As long as they keep the practice and work ethic going they have learned this year, they are well on their way to a quick turnaround.

How much of this "late success" came off the end of Cammy's stick?

Player progression is not linear and virtually non of the rookies minus Monahan played close to a full season.

A lot would have to go right for the flames to even match this year IMO

There is no doubt that making your NHL debut is a nerve-wracking experience but Bill Arnold and Johnny Gaudreau got a bit of a reprieve from the anxiety thanks to Mike Cammalleri.
Last weekend, the veteran made a point of spending time with the pair of rookies prior to suiting up for their first NHL game in Vancouver. He spotted them sitting down for supper alone and made his way over to eat with them.
"We kind of just shot it. He went to Michigan, he’s a college guy. He talked about his days at Michigan and just told us to go out there and play our game," Arnold said. "When you have a veteran like that come over and just talk to you, kind of settle you down, it really helps out a ton."

"They went to BC, not Michigan," he chuckled. "I don't how smart they are. They probably didn't get in to Michigan, either of them. Even though the program would obviously love to have them, they probably couldn't get through the academic criteria would be my guess

This is why I wouldnt mind having Squid back in the fold, he seems to be a real leader with the young kids (guns )

I'm fine with Cammalleri moving on from the Flames. Opens a top spot.

Burke isn't going to have 5 small guys (Hudler, Cammy, Baertschi, Byron, Gaudreau) on the top 2 lines.

This is the time to play prospects and really see what we have.

Only chance I see at playoffs is if Gaudreau basically becomes a star as a rookie, Ramo puts up .915 sv% or better, Ekblad falls to us and Wotherspoon progresses into a top 4 role. The playoff teams in the West are really, really good.

Agreed. We're too al dente to make a good pasta.

Burke will send some rookies to the AHL, so let's sign Cammy for 3-4 years. When is Glencross contract up? He's the one that walk.

I thought Connie got super pissed when Ben Hanowski was left on his own last season. Hopefully it's nothing like that this time around.
