Ryan Smyth definitely made the absolute most out of what skills he was given. Pretty impressive career, hope he enjoys retirement. Now the rest of the Oilers are still just awful, they better hope that Scrivens wins the Vezina next year if they want to finish higher than 25th overall.

Surprisingly candid responses from Tortorella.

He almost came off as likeable.

How about that? The Jets finish ahead of the Canucks in the Standings. Kind of sad to see all 4 Canadian team occupying the cellar though...

Torts is kinda a modern day Keenan now. The style of the game has passed him by, and he is clinging to old habits that don't work anymore.

Props to the Canucks for coming out to congratulate him too. Some may think it's a rip off on what Iggy did for Linden, but you have to take those good acts and pay them forward. Good stuff.
Anybody else think that Linden sent the Canucks out to congratulate Smyth. I don't see that team doing it on their own.

I kind of agree with your assessment, but I think Torts deserves more credit for his cup win (or loss, if you see it that way) than Keenan does with the all-star laden Rangers.

I agree , Smyth was a warrior for the greasers, not many guys could endure the beatings Hatcher used to give him in front of the net back in the day.
And nice touch by the Canucks on paying it forward ..... Although that comment by Hrudey was annoying. It wasn't nessasary to mention Iggy leading the Flames back on the ice to shake Linden's hand but for him to say he has never seen it since the Gretzky days was stupid.

HNIC deserves so much credit. Decades of Hockey excellence on TV. Ryan Smyth's farewell another example of it. Just the facts.

yes, remember Sportsnet switched out on Kipper?

Just so oblivious to the fact that his own network doesn't have a clue when it comes to this stuff.

It would be hilarious if the tragedy of 12 years of it wasn't on the horizon.

If that was the case, good. I like Linden. Hate the Canucks but he is one of a very few that I really enjoyed watching over the years.

I hope he brings some class back to that Organization. I'll still hate them but at least they can be respectable again. I've always been a believer that the best rivalries are the ones forged out of mutual respect.

I would agree with that had his cup win not been plagued by the "It was in." controversy.

Every law of physics had to be broken for that puck to not have crossed the line.

I won't miss that shucking of the right lip Ryan Smyth does after he completes a thought. Each and every thought.
