Maybe someone can clear this up - how was the Corban Knight situation different? Is the compensation (54th overall in the case of Hayes) determined by the original draft slot of the player?
|
Hayes is a former 1st round pick.
The CBA gives teams a compensatory 2nd round pick if they are unable to sign a former 1st round pick.
Knight as a former 5th round pick wouldn't give Florida anything.

Funny that we were going nuts about Johnny not signing with us and now we are all over Hayes. From Hayes perspective, they traded his brother so not much love for Chicago. Plus, the Chicago depth is scary so can't blame him. Odds are he goes to Florida but we should try to sign him.

Agreed. Decide if you want him - if you do then make a deal (provided you have some assurance he will sign).

I will admit, it was just one game and he's clearly better than that, but he left a pretty underwhelming first impression on me.
|
I agree. I've watched him a couple times and it seems that line focuses on Hayes as the shooter, regardless of how much room Gaudreau has, Hayes doesn't send the pass back once Gaudreau gets setup in the O-zone on the PP.
The guy does have an absolute bomb of a shot tho.

Hayes fills a need on the Flames so I hope we can get him but I think Florida has the inside track with the GM that drafted him in charge and his brother in the organization.

Hayes could be a real coup for the Flames speed things up rebuild wise. This is the kind of luck a team needs to get through the wall. Very interesting and exciting.

Chicago would get a 2nd if he walked so a fifth won't do it
Johnny can't go to abby because he signed a deal for this year and wasn't on the heat roster by trade deadline day. Same with Billy.
We really need a prospect & cba FAQ to pop before posting these days

Then what do you do with Arnold? Send him back to college for his overage year?

Can Giordano be sent down? What about Monahan since he is still in the first year of his ELC?

THIS is why we were all paranoid about Gaudreau. Wonder if hawks fans are pissed.

Early reaction I am gathering is they seem nonplussed about it.
Most of them view Hayes as an average prospect with upside, but they have a lot of forward depth.
Unlike if the Flames were to lose Gaudreau, they are still getting a 2nd round pick.

He's not worth a second and I don't think any team will give up a 2nd for him. The smart move for the Blackhawks and the team that wants to acquire him is wait for UFA

actually Tallon was already GM in Florida when Hayes was drafted by Chicago in 2010
only thing that works in favour of the Panthers is that they traded for his brother

He's not going anywhere until August I bet, the price will be a 2nd minimum and that is too high a price to pay for a 4 month negotiating window with him when you can get him for free by waiting.
Plus from his end a bidding war on the open market only helps him.

Looks like he is pissed at the Hawks about his brother:
Guy Flaming @TPS_Guy 23m
Paraphrasing @CHN_AdamWodon here but "friction" stemming from the Hawks trading Jimmy Hayes. It's Adam's story though @Sebmono @coreypronman
