Spring is just around the corner! Going to be a few more snowie days but need to start looking for some new summer tires. Last time I got my winters mounted I bought the black steel rims for them and had to chuck out my current all seasons as they were basically done. Have my normal rims sitting in the garage waiting on new rubber.

Looking for some suggestions on some decent summers. I drive an 05 Mazda 3 so it doesn't need to be anything fancy. Just looking for something that is quiet and sheds water well.

What have you guys tried?

I run Hankook Ventus V12 Evo's. Great tire for the money.

Continental ExtremeContact DW. Tire rack always has these at very reasonable prices, and they are an incredible tire for the money. You are getting 1st tier brand name tires, at what is typically an off make 2nd tier tire price. I am going to order a set for my BMW in the next couple weeks.

Have these same ones. Can confirm, good tire, really good price (compared to other summer performance tires).

Just bought me some 20" Michelin Primacy MxV4s to put on for the summer. Going on rims this week, I think.

2nd these. Great tire.

If you prefer to run an all-season (just in case snow ever hits, it's Calgary after all) the DWS is a great tire too.

3rd this. I run these (the DWS's) on my 08 Mazda3 and have been pleased. Mine were ordered off of TireRack and then installed by UrbanExpressions.

I'm running Yokohama S-Drive on my Civic Si. Grips very well, great treadwear rating and very quiet. I bought the tires and had them installed at Discount Tire when I was down in the US. They were cheaper than Tire Rack. Saved about $300 compared to local shops.

You all must be new to Calgary... because talking about summer tires in March is like talking about a shutout with 10 to go in the 3rd.

But I will vote for Conti extremecontact too. Great bang for buck.

Very true but I like to get started on stuff like this early. I can buy them and have them mounted and then change them myself when the weather is right.

I used to run very high performance summer tires. I discovered a few issues with that; even though they were very sticky and responsive they didn't last worth beans, were noisy after 10K, and the ride was terrible once I got into cooler temps (i.e. September mornings).

Considering that Calgary doesn't get all that hot for very long (high performance tires like heat) in the summer, I opted for Ultra High Performance All Season. I can run these tires from mid April into early October, they are still very responsive but much quieter, I'm on my 4th summer this year with plenty of tread left, and they can handle the occasional skiff of snow (which, with high performance summer rubber, becomes a white knuckle ride).

I ran Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires (all-seasons) for four years on the M5 (245/18 and 275/18 front and rear respectively), and absolutely loved them. Great versatile tire.

With the 335i, I've moved to a rotation of summer and winter dedicated tires. I'm running Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires (245/19 and 275/19), and so far, I'm really very happy with them. Grip for daaaaaays.

Our tire supplier had a crazy deal on Michelin Pilot Super Sports so I ended up ordering these instead of the Conti's. Ended up being $100 cheaper after I factored in the Tirerack freight. I cannot WAIT to get those horribad Dunlop run-flats off the car. I'll just carry a 'spare in a can' thank you very much.

You still ordered awesome tires. The deal I got, isn't a general public deal anyway. It was a volume promo, and I get them at dealer cost. They retail out at around $1700 a set. I still love those Conti's but when my parts manager walked into my office and put that Michelin quote in front of me, this was my reaction:

Yeah, am looking at a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3s for our new set of summer tires.

They list them as an all season, but everything I have read about them, they outperform a lot of summer only tires.

Just need to find the best deal locally.

Now that the dollar kinda sucks again, Tirerack doesn't save you much, and in some cases, it is cheaper to go local.

What size do you need? I can see if I can hook you up. A lot of the off the shelf Audi sizes are identical to off the shelf VW sizes, and I may have something for you.

Personally, I'd get summer tires. All seasons are the jack of all trades, master of none. Since you'll be switching between seasons anyway, you might as well have the benefits of summer tires in the summer. In my recent experience (not high end tires, buy any means), summer performance tires can be cheaper than all seasons as well.

I would also get them on separate rims so the changeover is something that you can do, or if you want to take it into the shop, it'll be cheaper. Easier on your tires too.

Just glancing at those contis you recommend shows ~$550.

On your sidewall (the side of the tire), there will be a series of numbers and letters (digits and symbols used for communication in various languages).

eg: 235/45R/18 or something similar.

I need that.
