How could be not sign? Watching that presser it really seems like his career at BC is over and his career as a Calgary Flame is just beginning. Would love to see him play on Sunday!

Because he can choose one of 29 other teams if he waits. Hence the tension...
Although I want him to sign(and tonight!), and it would be nice to see him play a game for Calgary this year, I still prefer him to sign an ATO with Abby and be able to play some more hockey this year down there. It gets him used to a bigger, faster game, gets him more games in which will help him next year being able to play a full schedule and it will give him more playoff experience which will help him further down his career when he helps guide the Flames to the glory land!
This has probably been talked about in other threads but can he sign an ATO as well as a an ELC for next year at the same time? Or does he have to be done his ATO before signing his ELC? Thoughts, if he can do that he could get part of his signing bonus relatively soon?

He can sign his ELC for next year and sign an ATO for this year. Its more likely he signs an ELC for this year and gets his signing bonus
If he only gets a couple of games in, why does his contract lose a year? How is it different from any other rookie playing 9 games or less and having their contract pushed back a year?

That rule applies to 18 and 19 year olds only. Johnny is 20.

EL Contracts don't slide for 20-year olds.

But we're the only one that can let him cut a year off his ELC (1 year closer to RFA and UFA) before the weekend's out.
True. But Justin Schultz got to pick his destination (LOL) and only had to sign a 2-year ELC. On the Oilers broadcast just now the commentators said that the Schultz camp could be eyeing the deal Justin Faulk just signed in Carolina after his ELC: 6 years at $4.83M AAV.
There are benefits to taking that route.

The NCAA would probably prefer he not sign until after the ceremony one would think (or at least have it announced he signed).... may end up waiting until Saturday.
So that he is the only one of the three who hasn't signed a professional contract? His season is over. Why would it matter? Where is any proof that the NCAA would prefer this?

I don't have any proof... Just a thought that the NCAA would like to not have him turning pro on the day he wins the award. The other guys are seniors so they aren't leaving school early.

Simply the optics. This weekend is the NCAA big show. It would detract from that if his signing was announced prior to JG winning the award.
Also good presser for the Flames... Announcing they have inked Hobey Baker winner to entry level contract.
You always want to maintain good relationships with developmental leagues. Delaying any announcement is a simple professional courtesy to the NCAA.
