While I don't want to rush Gaudreau and don't really care if he plays with the Flames on sunday or next year, I don't understand how this is such a hard decision.

If he gets injured or blows out his knee next year, he'll never make the NHL. His communications degree won't mean ####. If he blows out his knee in the NHL, at least he has taken the 1 million or whatever the rookie max is, then he can go back and finish his communications degree.

Emotionally yes, at the moment it sucks to have just lost then have so much pressure to make another life changing decision, but frankly, if he takes his time to settle down and consider all the options, there really is only one rational and logical answer.

Arnold is one of Johnny's best friends. They can share their first nhl camp together next year. Lots of reasons for Johnny to sign look how many kids got a taste this year. The flames are giving young players a chance

Rules prohibit NHL squads from negotiating with NCAA student-athletes, meaning the Flames can't talk contract with Gaudreau until he decides he's ready to go pro.

“There's no contract. We don't have anything done yet,” said Craig Conroy, who is the Flames special assistant to the GM and is in Philadelphia for the Frozen Four.

“He's going to go to the Hobey Baker ceremony (Friday). We're just here to make sure everything goes smoothly,” Conroy added. “If he decides he wants to get something done, we'll get something done.”

It wouldn't be much of a contract negotiation. Rookie max, sign here.

I for one am glad that Conroy is the management person there for Johnny. As others have mentioned, there is no one better to be there, even in the background. If Johnny needs to talk, everyone knows Connie can do that...to extremes if necessary. He is also one of the nicest guys ever and that can only be a positive for the Gaudreau family.

I think the decision is already made. I also think we'll hear after the ceremony tomorrow night.

If it's over, and I think it is, thanks to Johnny Gaudreau for being the most exciting hockey player I've ever seen. Good luck.

No! We must nip these typos in the bud now before we get another McGratten/McGratton situation on our hands.

"From everything that i've heard and seen, these young guys are playing pretty well. Especially Johnny Gaudreau i've heard a lot of good things about him. I'd like to see him live actually it would be exciting" - Mark Giordano.

Agreed. More importantly, since the Flames technically aren't supposed to be negotiating with Gaudreau, it's convenient that Gaudreau's "family advisor" is also Conroy's agent.
