He's playing like he retired two years ago.

The one thing I regret from the Flames 8-1 win vs the Oilers was that no one on the Flames got one last punch to the face of Ryan Smyth.

Too bad Ryan Smyth went back to that crap hole to retire in a bad mood.

Is he worthy of a jersey retirement? Or do the Oilers admit that they're past 25 years have been a complete and utter failure?

A lot of hate for a pretty classy guy. I wish him well. He's always been my favorite Oiler.

The second half of this video is pretty how I think of him whenever I hear his name. I'm pretty happy he's retiring.

Always gave 100% and was willing to put his body on the line for Edmonton or Canada

seems like a very classy guy and had a great career

perhaps the real reason he is retiring is they told him they needed his salary to redo Lowe's office because a tier 2 fan dared to touch Lowe's desk

Recall the 12h or so on that day in June that the previous Flames GM thought it was a good idea to trade Regher (and did) and bring in Smyth?

His contract negotiations (which fell short by the same amount that the Oiler reno'ed their dressing room that offseason for) was a microcosm of the Lowe ineptitude. Taking the entire day trying to negotiate an extension, then falling short and trading him to the Isles, took Lowe's entire trade deadline day up and they left other tradeable, expiring contracts on the roster.

Better than Steve Begin that's for sure.

Sure, and better than Fred Modin too.

Though, Smyth would've cost over 5x what Begin cost.
