Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think he has to wait at all. Someone mentioned the other finalists have already signed and are playing somewhere? I would think the only reason to hold off on an announcement would be as a courtesy.

They don't really have to keep it a secret. The other two Hobey finalists have both signed and have already played games in the AHL this year.

I imagine that given the hype around Johnny, if he signs they won't be able to keep it hushed.
That being said, in about a hour I am sure that someone somewhere on twitter will say he signed regardless of what they know. And they are probably right.
