I think Calgary sent 3-4 guys down that day on paper so they could qualify for the AHL play-offs.

Was Granlund?

He can once Ottawa's season is done which it is but because of AHL play-off roster rules he can't play in the play-offs for the Heat.
Neither could any of the other Flames that weren't listed on the Heat roster at the time the rosters needed to be set.

I didn't pay much attention just remember seeing it mentioned. It may be in the Heat general thread if you feel like combing through that.
Or I am sure PMM or some other Heat guy will let us know.

Right, I recall this now, at the trade deadline the Flames sent 4 players down and then recall them back up so they would be allowed to play.

These players were all in the AHL on March 5, and are allowed to go back for playoffs. And anyone recalled to Calgary after this date.
Ben Hanowski (LW)
Corban Knight (C)
Derek Smith (D)
Joey MacDonald (G)
Joni Ortio (G)
Markus Granlund (C)
Max Reinhart (C)

Thanks for that.
Would MacDonald/Smith have to clear waivers?

I believe in the Jays.

I think Gio and Backlund (Health permitting) would be locks. Hudler too unless whatever claptrap kept him off the Czech team for the Olympics is still in effect. What other Finnish goalies are out of the playoffs?

If Johnny can't go to the Heat, he should go to the WC for USA. Burke can be his way in.

It wouldn't be out of the ordinary for team USA to include a prospect/prospects on their team.
2013 - John Gibson, Jacob Trouba, Drew Leblanc (Hobby Baker winner)
2012 - J.T. Brown
2011 - Chris Kreider, Craig Smith, Andy Miele

Smith is already in the minors, he won't have to be waived again.
MacDonald I'm not 100% sure about at this point in the season.

Truculent!

It's not like it matter with Smith or Macdonald. No one is picking up FA AHLers off of waivers at this point.

“@DarrenDreger: Just talked about Maurice, DeBoer and Tippett (if avail) as Team Canada coaching candidates for Worlds. Perron, Bieksa, Turris confirmed.”

I think we see a few guys get asked
Giordano, Brodie and Monahan for Canada
Baertschi for Switzerland of the Heat are out.
Butler for the US, maybe Gaudreau if his season is done.
Backlund for Sweden
Hudler and Smid for the Czech Rep
Ramo for Finland

On the Oilers' broadcast last night the panel said that those three would 'likely play together' and whether they go or not will be a 'group decision'.

Am I the only one who reads this and thinks: "Good god. What an entitled bunch of babies."
The Oilers will never win with this trio. Never.
