I'm sure that's been taken care of

I'm just hoping Stryker is at the airport in Philly to report on seeing Johnny Hockey and asks CP if he should approach and stock Johnny to see if he is going to Vancouver. CP is put on the map.

Yeah, I get the reasoning, but was he saying it in a "we'll get this done" way or was he suggesting it's been confirmed.

Pro athletes don't need a work permit to play in Canada. He can get off the plane and clear customs just like any other American citizen.

Why does he want JG to burn a year off his ELC?

Because it's incentive for the player to sign if they get their bonus money and are a year closer to RFA.

Does it matter? If there was any doubt that it might not happen, there is no way that Burke would be that openly certain about it.

So its all a benefit to the player.... harms the club...... but it helps them get signed?

Obviously he didn't say he would be able to sign JG for sure. But he seemed confident a deal would get done. He wants get JG into the last game of the year to see what he has and to burn a year off the ELC. He said he didn't want to be stuck with a 3 year ELC contract. I got the feeling that Burke is not confident JG can be become a everyday NHLer tbh.

The Flames play Friday in Calgary against Winnipeg, and then Sunday in Vancouver.

Correct, though the only "harm" to the club is that if he turns out to be a real player, they will have to be him a real contract in 2016/17 as opposed to 2017/18.

But yes it's an incentive for him to sign.

I've noticed that Burke's policy is to under-promise and over-deliver. It alleviates pressure on his players and also lowers expectations. I like this strategy it also works well in business.

EDIT: To be clear I'm not implying that JG will be a regular NHLer. I'm just pointing out that Burke likes to lower expectations.

I'm curious because it's being held as proof it gets done, which isn't necessarily the case if it's just GM speak to a room of fans.

Yes, but this is Burke, not Kevin Lowe.
Burke doesn't wind up fan bases constantly and then never deliver. As has been stated, he tends to do the opposite.
Is this solid confirmation? Of course not, but all indications point to JG being in the lineup versus Vancouver

Not true. Amateur athletes are exempt and teams from foreign countries can play here without work permits, but to play for a professional Canadian team, there are permits required.
