by that logic I should never buy a 6/49 ticket as dirty hippies would have it locked down

Dirty hippies don't play the lottery. Don't be silly.

Like one poster has mentioned. I'd be happy seeing the team win out, may the draft pick land where it lands this year. Go into next season with the same work ethic, the same mentality, building off what foundation was laid this year, and continue to play hard and hope the gods of hockey reward the Flames after 2 hard working seasons with a lottery win in the 2015 draft, if they don't qualify for the playoffs that is.
Thing I like about this finish is that the whole team is upset the season is ending... they are having fun, which to me means they are going to be excited about going into next season, players are going to work that little bit harder in the off season... It's going to be a fun season next year. IMO anyways.

We just need to lose 1 game or have Carolina/Winnipeg win 1 game and we got 5th overall locked down.
Lets just hope for a Jets win Friday so then we can go and beat the Canucks on Sunday with Gaudreau and still have secured a top 5 pick (pending lottery results).

Always nice to get a win against a divisional opponent. Arguably the toughest division (at least the division with the most elite teams). Any time you manage to not only get a win, but take the season series is a sign your own team is fairly competitive.
Hard not to like Hartley. Seems to take a genuine interest in how the players are feeling, but still walks that 'tough' line. I don't think that is easy to do. Players seem to love and respect Hartley quite a bit.

We took the one with Chicago too I think. Would've actually swept them if we hadn't had Berra in net for the one at home. Won season series vs Sharks too unless I am mistaken.
Lost series vs Anaheim but we did leave them shellshocked.

Oh no! Now Byron isn't going to sign (an extension) because someone in the organization made fun of his size.

Out of thanks, but thanks.
For me, some of the bright spots of the season was:
- Not getting blown out much at all
- Blowing out some other teams - even good ones (like Anaheim you mentioned)
- Winning records against some elite teams
- That 45(?) count of games decided by a goal
Flames have been able to skate with the elite of the NHL. Yes, they have a losing record, and yes they are rebuilding. I just didn't think they would ever be able to be in so many games with so many great teams like they have been.
I also notice they are finding a way to win. Ramo has been that 'way' lately, but they also get timely goals here and there, and some fantastic defensive plays. They are putting it all-together. Finding a way to win is probably the most difficult thing to teach a rebuilding team. You can see that lesson being learned already.

It may be nearing time for Bouma to get a gritty nickname. Sandpaper? Sandblaster? Beach? What else is gritty? Kitty Litter is probably not especially complimentary. Cat box?
John Wayne? He's true grit and people are always shooting at him.

I've heard him called both Booms and Rocky by various teammates / coaches.
I like both for him actually.

Thanks again to GettingIggyWithIt. Best game of the season for me -- 3-2 loss against Chicago late, 2-1 OT over Carolina with Butler scoring late, 2-0 loss Olympic night and then tonight's back and forth gem that saw Calgary steal the game. On top of that my buddy bought a Big Ern pic and wanted to get it signed, I grabbed a hat just in case --
It was awesome talking to the players!
Monahan -- Thinks he and Gaudreau had good chemistry when I asked him about Johnny
Big Ern -- Offered to personalize my buddies portrait of the salute which was pretty awesome, loves the fans.
Wesgarth - Loves playing with Big Ern, I said both him and Brian had been playing lights out and he was quick to point out 'We are 20 and 11 since the line brawl with a massive smile. I laughed and said ya Vancouver fell apart and he laughed harder and repeated that phrase hahaha
Bouma -- Says some shot blocks hurt but others aren't so bad, loves the playing with everyone
Gio -- Most impressed with Money Hands this year
Backlund -- Hands is feeling better, wants 20 but doesnt want to rush his hand
Smid -- Smiled big when I said his first name is the best in the league
Russell -- Favourite guy to play with is Butler cause that's who is paired with, I asked him to talk to Buts for driving passed the 4 people lol he laughed hard
Glencross -- signed my buddies shades, most unique thing he has signed according to him and his wife haha
MacDonald -- was driving Cundari and Van BraBant, they looked like they were floating haha, super nice kid Bryce is.
Ramo -- got a kick out of Grand Theft Ramo haha, super nice guy
Stajan -- Could not have been a more curtious fellow, thanked us when we brought up his shootout goal and was very gracious.
Was not expecting a game like tonight, it kinda was on a whim and cheers to the season ticker holders who are giving the great deals that they are. Super proud of our team and the time they took too at the end of a long night/late start. Pumped!!!

I think it would end the whole "oh we should lose to get a better pick" argument if the nhl just made it so that the 16 teams who fail to make playoffs, all go in a lottery with 1 ballot each. You don't make playoffs, you're going in the f*$%ing lottery.
