Default Good news everyone!

That letter changes my point of view on the path the 'nucks are going to take next year. I doubt you put out that kind of letter and then tear it down for a rebuild and expect your fanbase to renew anyway; it's just illogical.

I think they'll try to ice a competitive team (and thus not rebuild) which is great news!

No one is forcing Linden to take the job, I'm sure he knows full well what he is in for.

I look at it as more of taking a job because of the pay, the history, and the proximity to the team you've played for your whole career. The fans just come with it.

Regardless of whether he's focused on what the fans are going to be thinking (which really pales in comparison to focusing on his position's duties, and executing them properly), it doesn't negate the fact that it shows how fickle the fanbase is, and how sad it'll be to see such a class act get smeared.

Why fickle though? Either Gillis deserved to get fired or he didn't, and most people here have been mocking him all year along with the collapse of the team. The Van fans liked him as long as the team seemed successful in the regular season, and then turned on him after a year of painful trades and poor performance.

If Linden sucks as a President and loses the fanbase, regardless of his revered status, people will call for his head. Maybe in a nicer way since he's a more likable guy but that's the nature of every hockey management or coaching position in the NHL ever. Memories are short. He shouldn't be exempt from criticism of his job as President just because he was a very likable player.

I'm not going to go through the list of reasons why the Canucks fanbase is fickle. I live here and breathe it every day.

I don't need to point out my city has been burned down twice by them, nor that their franchise goalie was chastised for years because of shortcomings only to be loved when he was shown the door, nor that their head coach who was doing a fine job with their aging team had been canned for the likes of a guy that likes to throw down in the opposing team's hallway, loved him then, but now that they are out of the playoffs, the fans want Torts' head too, etc etc.

If you want to see reasons for Canucks fan fickleness, check out the Vancouver is no good thread. I hear it's an excellent read, and a much valued source of info.

those are horrible trades for Vancouver

Oh I didn't mean overall not fickle. No arguments there. Just that with management positions, eventually, every GM/President/hockey ops guy in charge is despised by a portion of the fanbase if they dont bring a cup, and even sometimes they can win the cup and still be run out of town a mere few years later when things are no longer as rosy. Maybe it'll happen faster in Van when things don't go well in a year or two, but it's just the nature of those jobs that it eventually happens.

Having re-read what you said, I agree - it will suck when Linden becomes the target of all the misery and animosity of the fanbase, instead of staying in history as one of the greats.

Well he makes it sound like living here is some sort of horrible chore because he has people who cheer for the local hockey team around him. #### it, if I were that miserable and hated everyone around me I'd be gone. There are other jobs if that is all that is keeping him in a place he hates.

I'm patient and have faith in the justice system ... it's just a matter of time before the criminals (aka Canuck fans) are incarcerated and Vancouver realises it's potential as a wonderful city to live in.

If that's what you got out of it, then throw on the Canucks jersey now. Drama certainly seems to follow guys like you around.

Take a hike.

Sure is, but you sure made it sounds like you were being swamped by it "I breath it every day." Sure makes it sounds like you're drowning in it.

Ah, yeah. Follows me around. Meanwhile you make two riots that didn't even get out of the down town core as "burning your town" down. I for one remember the intense heat and total shut down of those dark days. Hyperbole: Exclusive to Canucks fans.

6 years of hating EVERYTHING about the Canucks felt great. Now I have to deal with liking Trevor Linden again? Ughhh...

I would be very interested to know what the season ticket renewal rate is in Vancouver right now. That letter with the offer of refundable deposits if the fans don't like upcoming moves smacks of financial desperation. They appear to be trying to keep ticket holders - and doesn't say good things about the potential for a rebuild since they will have to make some big moves.

I think Kesler is a very overrated hockey player so he doesn't have much value for me.

Hamhuis a better number 2 than a number 1 so he isn't going to get a kings ransom.

Top 2 picks are rarely dealt so to get one teams are going to have to overpay.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. You guys are in for a rude awakening on the return you'll get for Kesler. 1) he's got a NTC. 2). He doesn't want to play for you and is picky on where he'll go. 3) he's oft injured, the style he plays is breaking him down and has had two major surgeries for his joints (hip and shoulder) in the past. 3) he has a reputation as a diver/whiner to the point there was rumours of the league using him as an example for a diving penalty. 4). He's just not as good as Vancouver fans want to believe.

Let's suppose you wait until September 1st, and then decide you don't want tickets, or you get a job offer in another city and have to move. Would you not get your full deposit back? Is there a cancellation fee? I can't see a hockey team keeping your money if you don't want your tickets, and if there is a waiting list, it's not like they are out of pocket.
