Yep. My photographer friend does a lot of her shoots in that area. Besides the barn, there are a fair number of murals on the buildings in the area, that she utilizes - and that huge wrought iron gate/fence, which is in the same stretch, though for the life of me at this exact moment, I can't recall which place it's at - if you do any pictures in that area, a simple stroll along the street will find it. She's done a couple of shoots in Kane's Harley Davidson restaurant along that stretch as well (client request).
There's a mural on the side of Beadle's Bead store which is a block or so off of 17th - you can google the exact address.
I suppose you could do some stuff with the Lion Dogs or whatever they're called, in the Chinatown area.
There's another colorful mural on the side of the Camera Store, which is at 8th and 11th Ave.
There's the Rundle ruins near Inglewood and the Saddledome, and the same photog friend makes use of some of the old buildings in the same area, for backdrops.
Suppose you could use the arches/walkway at the Bay building, downtown. Also, you could do something at Wonderland (the giant metal/mesh head outside the Encana building).
I don't know the exact location of this place, perhaps someone here does, we just walk by it often - just off the west end of Prince's Island Park - it's a building in varying shades of blue, it looks like it's a wrap of some kind. Not far from the Peace Bridge, which is another option.
There's a music store around 11th and 14th? I think? - not sure of the name. Is that Heritage Posters and Music? Anyway, the back of the store is kind of funky, with old records nailed to/attached to the building. You might do some pictures there, but I have heard that the owner can get a little bit put out about that, so you might want to park down the street and sneak up the back alley and snap a few pictures real quick. I've only heard that he is like that, it may just be rumor.
Every Thanksgiving, I do my kids' pictures at Gerry Shaw Park, just off of Elbow Drive, but it's prettiest when it's not a leafless slush puddle like it would be right now. You could do a little there, with the stone benches, if you aren't doing wide shots. Great old lamp poles there too.
You could use the outside (and inside) of Eau Claire Market - lots of color.
Drive out to Okotoks, do some pics in the "old town" and you could drive out to the Big Rock (erratic). Black Diamond's got a few nice old buildings on main street.
You could pay and go to the top of the Calgary Tower and do some shots there.
You could always utilize Nenshi's old campaign headquarters on Macleod Trail, lol. It's pretty hard to miss.
