I feel uncomfortable. I feel like there should be a basket of bread on the table. As a sign of respect.

In speaking today with a couple of media guys I respect, let's just say you can feel free to speculate about the Canucks' next coach.

McKenzie said it right after, so did SNET guys

Tortorella was fired last year based on the exit interviews

If Daniel/Henrik/Bieksa (the guys Linden knows) go in and tell Linden they want a new coach he's 100% gone

this is quite the nut for linden to crack, and i hope that somehow he is somewhat succesful - but at the same time, i hope the nux continue to miss the playoffs......

Doesn't Linden give Kesler rides home after some home games? Have to think a new coach changes Kesler's view enough to want to stay.

I hope so because trading Kesler this offseason seems like the best way for the Canucks to potentially get some top level young talent and possibly turn the rebuild around faster than it need be.

With the twins looking like they will be impossible to move and Edler/Bieksa having little trade value Kesler is the guy who should be gone no question this summer.

Hopefully that connection that Linden may have with Kesler has him holding on to him too long.

Oh wow, if both Gillis and Torts are fired that is a lot of money gone on nothing... That is just terrible work hiring a 5-year coach and letting him go after a single season.

Agree with moon that Kesler would be a great piece to get them really going in the right direction, don't think it will happen though which is probably for the best as a Flames fan.

apparently there is a clause in Gillis' and Torts' contracts that states the Canucks don't have to pay them their full salaries if they are fired. So it won't be the full amount. Still seems like a waste of money!

Excellent recap Diane-Phaneuf, thanks so much!

I only hope the GM search doesn't overlap with our candidates. Wouldn't want too much competition for the right guy. Burke has stated previously that he would maybe want someone with little to no experience at this level (essentially so he can mould them), and I doubt that Linden would want to do the same since he's relatively inexperienced at running a club, so that will probably leave the two teams with different lists of guys. I wonder though if Burke will push to make his hire sooner rather than later with the axe potentially about to fall on a few other guys out there (Snow, Sather, McPhee, Cheveldayoff).

You would have to think that with our cap situation and prospect pool we would be more appealing for a GM long term, but if you wanted to step in and attempt to win a championship, Vancouver likely has the better situation to work with in the short term.

Yep Gallagher and Farhan both had that last night

they end up getting 2 years salary if fired before a certain date of the year

If someone can find the article, one of the Van papers mentioned the Flames had expressed interest in interviewing Lawrence Gillman.

McKenzie on TSN radio says Linden really likes George McPhee and he may be candidate for GM if Washington doesn't renew him.

No problems with that if it means he isn't coming to Calgary. He's not a terrible GM as he seems good at finding European talent but I feel the Flames could get better.

Don't like that at all as it elevates expectations of fans that big, positive changes are coming and just recently MacTavish found out the hard way that "bold moves" are not as easy to make once you actually spend the time in the GM shoes and deal with other GM's.
