To me that comes off as far more cliche and fairy tale than the ending they did.

Funny thing about opinions, we are all entitled to them. I like things you don't, you like things I don't. It's kind of how the world works. I really liked how it wrapped up, but hey if you think it's the worst one ever you are entitled to think that too.

Yes, I know...? I'm not sure what you're taking issue with.

Well it's the Internet, surely you're not surprised by someone commenting on your opinion. You're entitled to it, but nobody is entitled to comment on it? Silly.

I'm not sure why you would continue thinking about my post just because you disagree

Commenting on it and making a point to say it still bothering him are slightly different no? Besides with the topic at hand there is plenty to talk about regarding that.

No, not really. That's his comment, that your opinion was bothersome to his intellect.

You did say it was one of the "best series finales yet," which infers that you consider it near the best of all time. That's an extremely bold, controversial statement. If you're going to make such a statement understand that people will undoubtedly have trouble "getting over it."

It's a bold and controversial statement to say I think something is one the best? Yeah.... okay then.

If I say celery is the best food is that bold and controversial too? What if I like Kraft Singles better than Cheddar? And if I say Pizza 73 is the best pizza?

Seriously though it is far from bold, it is not even a little controversial. It is merely an opinion, it is not right nor wrong and is most definitely not controversial.

And if my opinion about a television show finale is even a little bothersome to someone's intellect, they should seriously seek out professional help because they need to figure out why something inconsequential causes them so much grief.

"It doesn't have to make sense, to make sense." -Ted, 2nd last episode.

Not like you ending bashers weren't warned going in.

You're taking this way too seriously, and being way too hypocritical. It's his opinion that your opinion is ridiculous. You keep defending your right to have an opinion but questioning his right to his opinion.

People are allowed to think your opinion is silly, get over it.

When you say that a show like HIMYM (which is a pretty good sitcom, but I doubt you'd find anyone say it was the best sitcom) had one of the BEST finales of all time (considering how many people really didn't like it at all, and how much the ending is being criticised by a ton of people) then yes, that's controversial. Stop taking yourself so seriously. We get it, it's your opinion. Move on. Let people disagree if they want to disagree, your opinion is not above reproach.

Alberta_Beef, I'm considering being ridiculously offended by your assumption that I'm a man. But you know what? Instead of writing a condescending post about it, I'm just going to roll with it and give you the benefit of the doubt. Because really, I'm okay with it. It's the Internet, and I'm sure you didn't intend personal offense.

Sure they can think my opinion is silly, just like I can think their opinion is silly. But to say it is controversial is laughable and shows you have no idea what a controversy actually is. Speaking of laughable you tell me not to take it so seriously and yet here you are, continually replying to every post I make. Maybe you should heed your own advice?

I apologize. To be fair though being a hockey message board more often than not the people we talk to are male and your username gives no indication one way or another.

Controversial, as in, disagreeable:
"giving rise or likely to give rise to public disagreement." Pull out a dictionary.

Seriously, move on, get over it. The only person taking this seriously is you. First it's that someone shouldn't feel certain ways about your opinion, then it's that someone can't label your opinion a certain way.

You certainly have a lot of demands regarding other people's opinions. Sounds like you're just interested in picking fights. Laughable indeed.

I am so glad you have a guide to my inner soul and no how seriously I am taking things. Quite frankly I don't care that you don't agree with my opinion, I don't care if anyone agrees with my opinion but in the end it's my opinion and the only person that should be concerned over it is me.

And really it's about a TV show dude, so we have different tastes, you need to get over it and accept not everyone agrees with you.

Asked the opinion of my aspiring movie critic friend whose opinion I regard most highly, and he really liked it.

I'm feeling pretty solid about it being an above average finale.

Well, here's an actual respected TV critic who hated it for the reasons most here have cited.

Quote:
How I Met Your Mother’s long-awaited and much hyped series finale turned the series' long-term title story into an elaborate con job.

....

I do not want to dwell on how, therefore, this ending was a powerful argument that — criticisms of finales like Lost’s notwithstanding — it is not necessarily the ideal thing to “have it all planned out from the beginning.” Not if that plan is so rigid and locked-in — say, with lines of ending dialogue recorded years in advance — that they can’t allow for organic growth and surprise. Stories change over nine years, characters do, people do. And people did over the course of HIMYM – only to be wrenched back over the course of an hour, because that was the Plan. That show you followed since 2005, it turns out, was the longest retcon in the history of retcons.

There's no need to apologize - point is, I'm not bothered. You didn't intend anything by it and it's no big deal. Much like me quoting your post from a couple of pages back because it struck me.

The finale of SFU actually WAS legen (wait for it) dary, and is kind of considered a modern classic. If you were emotionally invested in the show (I had binge-watched it) it was really powerful. The HIMYM finale, on the other hand, was largely panned and many would consider it a cheap cop-out. So the comparison was a bit out there for me ("still getting over it" was a figure of speech however). Again - just my opinion. Carry on with your own opinion. Free country, etc.

Personally I think there was more of a payoff with this ending. Makes much more sense on why Robin played such a huge part of all the ongoing storylines and how it always tied back to Robin.
Its a sitcom. People watch it to laugh and enjoy the characters. Not for characters they love dying and non-cliches stories, complex. If this was a dramatic show... kill the mother and I'll give it a fair shot. In a sitcom - give me the happy cliched ending.

I think some people are forgetting that Barney becoming a father to a daughter changed him. The onions were out for that scene when he first held his baby girl and finally fpund the woman that can change him.
