George Bush Paintings
This seriously feels like an April Fools Day joke but I guess it is real.
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/...ticle17825803/
Quote:
Bush had no interest in painting until leaving the White House and reading Winston Churchill’s essay “Painting as a Pastime.” His earliest works included quick drawings made for family members with an iPad app.
“I wanted to make sure the last chapters of my life were full, and painting, it turns out, has helped occupy not only space but opened my mind,” Bush said.
“I paint a lot because, as you know, I’m a driven person and I want to get better. A whole new world has opened up.”
Bush, 67, said he was reluctant to display his work but hoped the exhibit, which will run through June 4, will create interest in his presidential library.

Can't help but think of this painting when viewing Bush's Gallery.

Impressive - you can barely see the numbers underneath the paint!

No worse then half of the crap that I see hanging in museums or galleries with massive price tags on them.
Art's subjective, one mans absolute garbage is another mans masterpiece.
I give the guy credit for trying something new.

I actually think some are quite good. His use of contrasts in the portraits of Manmohan Singh and Hamid Karzai are impressive.

Most of the articles seem to use the Harper and Putin ones as their images since they're horrible, but the others are actually quite well done.

They might not be that good which is subjective, but as soon as I saw that first picture my thought was, hey that looks like Stephen Harper.

I think a lot of them are pretty decent, especially for a guy starting so late in the game. As long as he wasn't tracing, there is definitely some talent there.

The one of Harper does not look remotely like him whatsoever.
Rest are not bad.

Much worse than all the crap in every museum.
Not to get all Slivery in here, but some things are objectively Not Good and these paintings fall under that umbrella.
I admire him for putting his work out there, and he paints better than I ever will, but those are some bad portraits.

Clinton is off solving disease and hunger.
Carter is solving homelessness.
Bush is painting poorly.
It was always about ego with him.

Clinton was loved, Carter was universally blah... people hate George W. Bush, if he tried to do anything it would be universally shunned.
Plus who gives a rats ass what he tries to do.

Because of Bush's PEPFAR program more than 4 million Africans are on antiretroviral treatments today. He still has strong ties with the African continent where his and Laura's focus have shifted to fighting cancer. Very unfair to list Clinton solving disease and hunger considering what George Bush has done and is doing in Africa where he's practically a Saint.
Obviously you can disagree with many (most) of his decisions in office if you want but he's done far more than painted some pictures.

Boy I normally agree with you on a lot of things, but you absolutely missed the boat on this one.
Maybe go back and look up what Bush has done
He's done a ton for Aids and disease in Africa
He worked with Clinton on the Haiti crisis.
I'm not sitting here saying admire the guy, because there's a lot that he's done that can't be admired, but at least give him some due, his Africa work is massive.

I wanna see his painting of the WMDs in Iraq. Of course it'd just be a blank canvas...All kidding aside these are actually much better than I would have thought. Definitely not world class or anything but, objectively, if you were told W. did some paintings, most people would have thought it would look like kindergartener. Instead they don't look too bad.
