I don't know what's more annoying... Racism or Racial Hyper Sensitivity.

None the less... I think the Flames are at a point in which they are not only evaluating what they have but also show casing. There's gonna be a lot of roster movement in the off season and I wouldn't be surprised if there was a lot of depth moves made.

If someone was to refer to a young Steve Nash as a young white kid when describing him, it wouldn't be racist, it's just an easy way to indicate someone who's in the minority compared to their peers.

I'm not black so maybe someone who is can correct me, but i really think that's oversensitive. You could describe someone as "the guy in the red shirt" or "the black guy", if he's the only one in the group. Is that racist? Its a description of how they look. It's not being used in a derogatory context. I see no problem.

ANYways....
I think if the word black is not used in a pejorative sense, it is not "wrong", but it may not be totally right - if that makes sense.
Offence is something that is taken, it is on the person/people hearing the statement and whether of not they find it to be offensive, as to whether a comment is considered offensive. That is why it is such a minefield.
It is not a word in which every usage is considered a racial slur, so it comes down to how it is received. Working in the public sector, like I do, you just avoid certain words so as not to risk causing offence.

Would like a loss tonight so we can hold down fourth draft position.

I'm hoping for a win and the Islanders to win the rest of their games.

After we win, we still have two games in hand on the Isles.

You mean the Isles have two games in hand on us.

They'll very likely pass us again even if we win this game.

In conclusion, suck it Florida.
I'm a big Nigel Dawes fan as well!

Panthers: Goalie Roberto Luongo will return against Calgary after he practiced Thursday. He has missed three games with an upper-body injury sustained when Carolina Hurricanes forward Radek Dvorak crashed into him March 27.

Definitely racism, as it does far more damage.

Win or lose, hope they work hard! That way I'm not disappointed, either way.

I'm probably being anal, but it just irks me whenever someone does it. Happens all the time too, which makes it more annoying.

"I went to the mall last night and saw a black kid stealing a candy bar".

What does his skin colour have to do with this story, why include that particular detail?! Unless you're providing a cop with a description, it's irrelevant. Even worse, you wouldn't have described him as a white kid if that were the case. But because he's not white, it's worth including. Just irks me, man.

I'll shut up now.

Paul Kruse?

Totally expecting the Flames to destroy Florida, which means it will probably be closer then I expected.

It will go to a shootout. It always goes to a shootout against the Panthers.

Hi everyone, im a young African kid and first time poster on this forum. i have read and followed post fom this forum for about 8 years now. i just want to touch about the rasicm issue. The problem we have wit the word "black" is that it is almost always used as negative. Because of this when ever it used we right away see it as negative. I mean you can't blame us all our lives from a young age it been used as a negative word agiasnt us. to wrap it up i understand it wasnt being used in a negative way here on the forum but there were better choices of words mind you. "African" "Nigerian" could have been better suited. i dont feel offended at all thou jus my say
