Probably no surprise that Cammalleri wants term and Burke is probably only willing to go max 3 years. If Free agency has taught us anything, Cammalleri could easily get Clarkson term and $$$ this off season. If it isn't there then he can always come back to Calgary. He will probably know within the first 8 hours of free agency if that long term is out there.

Doubt it at this point. The highest price for UFA rights I can remember was a 3rd (plus Leopold's rights) for Bouwmeester. Just don't see Cammy getting that kind of interest, especially with so many of UFA wingers on the market. At best would be something like Wideman, 5th rounder in a future draft and nothing prospect. It's unfortunate, but nothing crippling.

Nyi is going to need a scoring w for Tavares. Given that they Moulson and Vanek flipped them the bird, they might look at Cammy for that kind of term, given that Tavares is tied up for another four seasons after this one. They have traded picks for negotiation rights in the past, can see them throwing us a fourth or lower pick to talk to Cammy.

If Cammy wants 5mil/5yrs then clearly he is not the right fit for us. That's Glen Sather money. Have fun in New York. Anything over 3 years at that dollar figure would be frivolous.

Agreed, Burke should only be entertaining Cammaleri resigning if one of the numbers is less than 4. Either ~$5M-$6M @ 2-3 years or less than $4M @ 4 - 6 years.
Any thing different would be a bad fit for the Flames 2 years down the road.

Any way we could do a sign and trade, like Anaheim did with Bobby Ryan?

I cant remember the last time that happened with any upcoming UFA in the league.
Even then Bobby Ryan signed his current contract on September 10th 2010 and was traded on July 5th 2013

I don't think anyone else is gonna offer Cammalleri more than $5 million.

Yeah, I don't know about that. I'm sure there are more than a few GM's willing to dish out that kind of money on the open market. I wouldn't be shocked, that's for sure.

If Cammy does price himself out of a contract, it might benefit the Flames. If no one wants to give him 5 mill per, we could sign him to that contract then trade him and retain some salary.
If Cammy wants big money and to go to a cash strapped contender, it might be our best option.

Cammy is going to get 5+
The only way I don't see him getting that is if he decides to sign with a cap strapped contending team or signs a long term deal for 4.5-4.9ish.

I wouldn't expect to see him here next year although I really do like Cammy as a player. I think something has to give as far as having Byron, Hudler, Cammi and perhaps Gaudreau all in the same line up. I like all 4 players, I see room for 2 or 3 of them.

David Clarkson got more than 5 on a long term deal. David. Clarkson.
Someone will pay Cammalleri.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing him on a team like the sabres, islanders or panthers.... I can really see him going to a team like the Sens, leafs, sabres, kings or even sharks.

Didn't Edmonton even offer Ckarkson 6 million a year?
Cammalleri should get that type of money but hopefully not here.

It was a much shallower free agent pool last year though.
I still think it's possible that Cammalleri gets that contract, but I don't think it's necessarily a given.

Clarkson was younger and less injury prone though. I can't seem Cammy getting $5 mill.+ for anything more than 3 years. It would just be too much of a risk.

Same here. I am a Cammalleri fan, he's a fun guy to watch. But I think it is well known that he has a bit of a reputation as a guy who's after the money... I'm not so sure there is as much love for him among NHL GM's compared to fans.
