I think John should wear the gear that protects him the best and makes him as big in the net as possible under the rules while allowing him the greatest freedom of movement possible. But all three choices look completely identical to me.

Call me paranoid, but won't he be able to sign with any team next August?
With Gaudreau I wasn't that worried because you knew the Flames offered him a better NHL opportunity than most teams.
With Gillies it's not as clear cut because the Flames have Ortio and McDonald. There are other NHL teams with thinner goalie prospect pools where he might believe he can get a better opportunity.

Yes but if he's playing college next year then he doesn't need to wait either way. He can sign with anyone before the 2016 season.

What if Gillies does sign with Adirondack soon and leads the team to the playoffs? Goaltending has been shaky lately. It sure would be a neat story to have him come in and take over as the starter.

Even if they lose, I believe they're still likely to get invited to the NCAA Tournament, which starts two weeks from now. So, the earliest they're likely to sign is March 30 if they don't make the Frozen Four.

Yeah with Providence being #10 in the pairwise rankings and #11 in the RPI rankings I would say the chances of them being invited are very good.
