Hmm, I wonder if this is one of the American pilots that is trained and had authorization to keep a firearm while in the cockpit? And they simply didn't know it had to be declared here in Canada?

He probably forgot he had it, lied to customs, then hoped he could get back to the US with it undetected.

Chances are he actually forgot about it. You would be surprised how many Americans forget their handguns and go through security. I know from experience as I used to be a airport security screener. The most rediculous one was an American with a AK-47 in his carry on. When they police were called he claimed he knew it was in there and "F that I'm not checking in my gun! someone will steal it!" just rediculous.

I believe it. I know someone that used to work at the border and every once in a while, an American would try to cross with a gun.

She said you would even get the odd one that pulls the; "But I'm an American!" card, and tries to argue that because it was legal for them in the U.S., it should be legal for them in Canada. I am not trying to suggest that such a person is representative of the average American, but it's funny that anyone would act that way.

I've seen that show Border Security a few times, and one was a family with young kids ends up there, with about 5 - 10 guns. 1 was in the baby stroller with the baby. Now, these people took a wrong turn and ended up at the crossing accidentally, they weren't deliberately trying to get across. That's just how they go about their daily lives, handguns in the baby stroller with the baby.

I've heard similar stories from a border guard too. American off duty police officers trying to bring their service weapons across.

Do you have any weapons you wish to declare?
Nope
Are you sure?
Yup, no weapons
Are you really sure?
Yup
Step out of the car...what's this?
Oh, but I'm police officer, I'm allowed to carry that...

Well why else would someone have a gun if it's not loaded?

Further to that, I believe that they were on their way to the park (kids and guns and all) when they took their wrong turn. Weird.

Yes, I PVR Border Security religiously. |

I know this thread seems to be a lot of fun and games but the fact remains a person somehow got a loaded .38 handgun into Canada on an aircraft...this should be somewhat troubling no?
