I've had Phaneuf of this Sedin, it's time to start winning

When a team is looking to start winning the usual thing to do is add some impact players to the lineup. The Pens did the opposite. Ridding themselves of two top tier players and adding some roster depth and a young player with a bright future. Dion Phaneuf just was not a fit in Pittsburgh putting up 2 points in 13 games while being a minus 3. Sedin was given just a brief two game audition that seen him go scoreless, given the fact he was not in our long term plans he was expendable.

The Pens figured it was about time for to thin the roster and allow the top guys to step up. The deal weakens the team on paper but hopefully will bring in more chemistry and get the team playing with consistency.

The deal breaks down as follows:

To Tampa Bay
Henrik Sedin
Dion Phaneuf

To Pittsburgh
Jaden Schwartz
Ryane Clowe
Jakob Kindl

We were looking for a piece that they really liked and Schwartz was that piece. He is a young kid putting up tremendous NHL numbers signed to a great contract and I think his potential is still much higher. We are hoping Clowe can add flexibility to the lineup and fill in where needed amongst the top 9 forwards. Kindl is starting to come into his own and can hopefully contribute to our team right away.
