Northland KIA GMG.
Talk to the service guy today looking for a battery. My car takes a 121R (which is a small and apparently slightly rare battery), so I've already tried Costco and Canadian Tire at this point. The guy says sure, we have it, so I pay over the phone since I'm not sure I can be there by 5.
Wife gets home to pick me up, so I grab the old battery and lug it to the dealership. I get there JUST before 5 (we're talking 4:55-58) and roll right over to the parts desk to drop off my old battery. Closed. Alright, whatever, I'll return my old battery tomorrow.
Go to the front desk and grab the new battery, but what do I notice? IT'S THE WRONG BATTERY. I told the guy over the phone my vehicle and the EXACT battery I needed, and it's the wrong f'n battery. On top of that? Since parts department is closed, I can't get a refund. Instead, I have to take the wrong battery and attempt to bring it back tomorrow. Two useless batteries, one dead car, and another wasted day.
The Blackfoot and Glenmore construction zone really GMG. I slow down to 60 for it, as I've seen officers there nabbing speeders. Most folks there get a massive hit, since everyone seems to think that Glenmore's actual speed limit is 100, not 80. So you hit that zone, and you are doing 40 over. I wonder if folks actually realize what kind of fine they could be in for because they don't even try to slow down for the 30 seconds it takes to cross the zone. I was curious, so I looked it up.
Fail to obey traffic control device - $172.00 - 3 Demerits
40km/h over limit - $264.00 - 4 Demerits
Careless Driving - $402.00 - 6 Demerits
These are the 3 I can see applying. I think that only the 40km/h over one doubles, and that leaves you with a fine of $1102, and up to 13 possible demerits, almost all the way to a suspension. For the 30 seconds it would take to slow to 60 (regardless if you agree that it should be there or not, which I feel it sure shouldn't be).

Yeah, I'll go with "not speeding".
Although I am not necessarily condoning speeding.... I've never seen someone there actually pulling people over - just photo radar. So there's are no demerits. And if they aren't pulling you over I don't think they can give you anything other than a speeding ticket. And then, there are no workers present right now so it won't double.
So the speeders are likely only risking the $264 ticket if they are indeed going 100. Otherwise the fine is obviously less.
"A traffic control device is any sign, signal, pavement marking, or any legally installed device erected by authority of a public body or official having jurisdiction for the purpose of regulating, warning or guiding traffic. Most commonly this means traffic signals, regulatory and warning signs, and all pavement markings."
A speed limit sign is a regulatory sign.

Hm, I've seen a cop pull over a car going e/b once, but only the once. Seen photo radar going w/b twice. Still seems like a lot of money for not slowing down for a few seconds.
I think it's more dangerous to slow down there as I don't want to be the one monkey doing 60 while everybody around me is doing 90. That sign needs to be taken down. It's hazardous to obey it at this point.

I agree, I can't figure out why it's still up...but that doesn't change the fact that it IS up, and it IS in effect...so I slow down. I don't agree with it, but that doesn't mean I get to ignore it. I don't want the speeding ticket, by camera or cop.

Thanks, I had no idea what a speed limit sign was until you posted the definition.
I never said that it couldn't be used. But it seems like a stretch that when there's other charges that can easily be laid (ie, speeding, without due care/control, too fast for conditions), that a regulatory sign charge is going to come into play, unless it's in an accident or vehicular manslaughter case, or the driver is being the biggest db on the planet.
By the very definition (a rather wide umbrella) of what a stunting ticket can cover, you could lump that in there too. Still doubtful that for something such as speeding, that's already a black and white ticket, they're going to pull that one out without some extremely extrenuating circumstances.
Speeding is easy to prove in court, so why bother with a more vauge charge that can be fought easier than a simple speeding ticket?

in bc we have 'traffic fines double in construction zones'. are there similar construction zone penalties in alberta??

Drivers GMG. I've been one of them since last year.
It seems as though once a person gets into a car, they turn into an #######. Going back to the post where a honk resulted in getting a finger in return... Can you imagine that happening in say, a supermarket, where someone almost hits your trolley, you say "Hey, watch out" and the other person gives you the finger and walks away? No, they usually politely say "Oh sorry!" and everything is fine with the world.
Or can you imagine walking down Stephen Ave and you notice a guy next to you about to cut across in front of you, but you walk faster so as to block his path?
The immaturity and impoliteness of most drivers is ridiculous.

Probably been posted 100 times in this thread, but this is exactly what you described (skip to 0:42)

What RGMG about that whole situation, is that there has been no real work/construction done there for a long time.
The westbound side (Glenmore), they total screwed the already stunted merge/weave from northbound Blackfoot. To leave that as a solution for as long as they have is not good planning. The eastbound side of Glenmore, there is no legitimate reason for it to be 60km/hr. The merge from southbound Blackfoot to Glenmore east is not restricted.

So what if it's still up? People are doing 90 there because it's safer to do 90 than it is to do 60. You are probably one guy out of a thousand that does 60 there, and whenever I run into that, I want to drive up behind them until my bumper gently touches their's, then floor it until they get back up to the speed of traffic.

People who blindly follow rules GMG.
Some of us can lose our jobs for speeding.
I have to be able to drive for my job and if I get more than three minor speeding tickets in a three year period I will be banned from driving and therefore unable to continue being employed. One major speeding ticket will also do the trick. 91 in a 60 zone would be enough to prevent me from driving.

And I would slam on my brakes and let the fun ensue.

I honestly believe you are putting yourself and others at risk to slow down to 60 when the flow of traffic is going 30 km/h faster. Nobody wants a speeding ticket for any number of reasons. That doesn't change the fact that it is safer to stay with traffic than hit the brakes on a freeway because a dirty old sign they forgot to take down in October is telling you to do so.
