Edmonton needs to draft Draisaitl. You can't win a damn thing with a Gagner/RNH/Arcobello trio. Draisaitl + RNH + Gagner + Arcobello would give them actual depth at centre. Then spend 2nd round draft picks on D-men and dip into free agency or deal one of your wingers for a D-Man.

Outside of Draisaiti that would be a really undersized Center group with no shutdown ability at all. In other words it would be . . . what's the term I'm looking for? How do the French say it . . . oh right Sauce faible.

That sounds a little bit smart, no way I see Edmonton doing this....

Yeah, I mean they could still try and deal Gagner for something useful and go after another 3rd line centre for added size/play Arcobello on the wing or whatever.

But if their idea of fixing their problems starts and ends with adding better defense, they'll still be screwed (which would be delightful of course). Monahan can already overpower both of their top centres and he's only 19.

Do not agree.
Edmonton has several players who might be good.
Elsewhere.
In Edmonton there is simply no chance for them to be good, because Edmonton is no good.

Edmonton has a lot of good young players and will be very good.
The Edmonton Oil Kings that is....

The Oilers have to go down as a guide of how NOT to build a team. This isn't a bad move, like many of theirs, but is pretty meh

That smells of a plan that makes sense.

I'd suggest you edit your post, you never know who might be lurking these boards

Unless that plan is on the cover of a draft magazine, I don't think you have to worry about the Oilers brass reading it.

Fixed that for you.

Arcobello is a pretty good player... pity he's with Edmonton.

Pretty good player? He's 26 this summer and not a full time NHLer..

Try and look at this from the other teams perspective. If you had something useful, would you trade it for Gagner? No? Didn't think so.

it is all perspective. Anything can look pretty good when the comparison is something that is no good. Although after this contract the oilers will ensure he will be no good.

I'd move Wideman for Gagner.

...he's kinda useful

Why?

He isn't going to play top 6 in front of Backlund or Monahan.

We also have Stajan over whom he is an improvement offensively, but dreadful defensively, and small.

He sure as hell isn't going to play 4th line.

He would simply crowd the C position with another small, mediocre player. And cost $5m or so. And he is lazy. I think that would be stupid.

If you want to move Wideman fine, but only if it returns a a player that is actually helpful for the Flames.

The way I took his quote, was that he meant someone like Wideman, Who isn't really useful either. Think he was using Wideman as an example, in jest. At least that's how I took it.

I assumed it was (at least somewhat) in jest as well.

And I can see why someone would want to move Wideman.

But acquiring a player that doesn't help the team - and may even shed stink upon the other players - makes no sense.

Better to simply get rid of a player than to bring in another player that would be of no help to the team.

Just commenting - not attacking them.

Yeah, for sure. I wouldn't want Gagner and his 5 million dollar cap hit anywhere near the Flames either.

They are actually calling Arcobello "Mighty Mouse".
