tonneau covers
So, I'm looking for a tonneau cover. I want to be able to put our skis/snowboards in the box, and not worry too much about them. IE, on the way home from skiing, stop at Barpa Bills for a burger without having to put the snowy gear in the cab. I wouldn't be leaving gear in the box for extended periods.
I also need to be able to haul bikes in the back. I have a tailgate pad that the front wheels will go over. If I want to go snowbiking, I can either take the tonneau cover off, or move out of the way with enough room for the bikes.
I also do not want to drill holes in my truck.
So, one thought is, get a trifold and put it on for ski trips, and take it off for bike trips. I imagine this can get old quickly, plus having to have a space for it in my garage. I'm unsure that a trifold cover folded up would still leave me enough room for bikes, even with the front hanging out of the box.
Does anyone have something they can recommend?

A trifold is extremely easy to take off and put on, you'd have no trouble doing that. 1-2 minute job at the most once you've done it once or twice and get the hang of it. Doesn't take up much space to store somewhere either
How big is your box? I think you'd have enough room leaving it on and folded up anyway.

I've got a Pace Edwards roll top that I really like. It does take up a bit of space at the front of the box. I like that it locks and so does my end gate.

Bought this one from this website, no issues although I had to pay duty as well.
Easy installation, even for a non-handyman like myself. It has a latch on it so it can be 'locked' when the tailgate is up.

Wow, I always thought they were "tunnel covers", and could never figure out where the tunnel came in.

The leather roll up ones are the best option in my opinion.
I've had one for a few years and it's super simple to install, and if you have a locking tale gate they're relatively secure.
If someone want's to seal your stuff they'll get it no matter what, 90% of the security is out of sight, out of mind.

Bakflip is the way to go IMO. Easy to install and take no room from the box when opened up against the back window.

I was going to say just this. Inexpensive, easy to install and fool proof to operate. Since it takes 30 seconds to roll in or out you still can load your gear like a normal box and close it when you need added protection.
I did however just stumble across these (decked.com) and if I had a full size truck I'd seriously consider one. Secure storage AND open box. Best of both worlds? Add a topper and you've got a place to sleep too!

I have this one on my 2011 Ram 1500
http://bakindustries.com/p-8215-bakf...-overview.html
I have a locking tailgate so anything in the box is secure when i lock it.
Something about fabric tops worry me security wise.
Any crackhead with a pen knife can see whats in there in 30 seconds.
I got mine at Auto Truck Depot. 42 Ave & Macleod.
Approx 800 tx included.

^Mine is the same but different brand. It seems pretty good to me and I picked it specifically because it's simple, but you have the whole box if you want/need it.

One downside, pointed out by a friend, is that it is above the box. Which doesn't bother me personaly.
I think I paid just under $1000 around two years ago.

I've got a Roll-n-Lock. I like it since it locks at the tailgate and the tailgate can't be opened once it's locked. Also seems like it would be pretty break-in proof.

X2 for the Bakflip. Advantages to having a hard shell tonneau vs a soft shell, someone motivated enough could take a knife to, also found my old leather one faded much faster then i expected (within 2 summers) was noticeably faded even after using the protectant supplied with it.
Ultimately depends on your price range because a leather or vinyl roll up will be much cheaper then a tri-fold hard shell.
