Just picked up a banana republic suit last week for $300 after signing up for their email spam and getting a 50% off coupon. Nothing but compliments wearing it on the weekend.

As far a fitting, buy the shoulders snug and get the rest tailored. Shoulders can't be reconstructed but most everything else can be modified.

The bay has those 30/40% off sales quite often and you get some of their Calvin Klein, Jones New York or Kenneth Cole suits for 300-500 bucks.

Go to the downtown location, they have a much better selection. Either that or go to Moore's.

As a man with two suits, every man should probably have five. What is the absolute worst thing that could happen?

It doesn't matter where you buy your suit as much as making sure you pay to have it tailored properly. A good suit that isn't properly fitted looks worse than a cheap suit that tailored.

I dunno, I have a navy suit and a charcoal suit and that serves me fine.

Granted, I don't have to wear a suit to work otherwise I would need more.

You won't fit into H&M or Banana Republic.
I would look for a sale at the Bay or go for Moore's. You need a suit on hand, but don't really ever see needing one - then why bother going too nice. If you have a female, take her. Some Moore's fabrics look cheap, some less so.
Safe play is a charcoal grey, as recommended above. Basic, two button, notch lapel.

(and just an fyi. I wear lots of suits, and never would buy a Moore's one. But that is because I have different needs).

All I can say about very nice and expensive suits is this- they are obviously very tailored to your body and usually a nice tapered fit. If you have any "plans" for gaining or losing weight in the next while, you could be flushing your money down the drain. Not a problem I guess if you don't have a problem spending that kind of cash again if that happens. Getting a cheaper suit minimizes the loss I guess if you happen to gain or lose a few.

There is nothing I love more than a great suit. Unfortunately, the previous scenario happened to me not long after purchasing a prada and canali suit. They are at least 2 sizes too big now since I dropped 50 pounds about 18 months ago. Thinking about giving them to a friend in exchange for a meal

Jos. A. Bank, buy 1, get 4 free.

Also, give Tip Top Tailors a try, that's where I got my last wedding/funeral suit, and I think it was only about $300.

Go see Ryan at John's Mens Wear in Stettler.

He is a CP member and hooked me up with a great customized Jack Victor for my wedding. Saved me hundreds. His store has a great selection and he knows what he's doing, well worth going out of your way. PM me for his contact details.

Wedding and funeral are two of the same.

Jo a bank is good but they charge out the ass for tailoring. I get most of my suits from Belk here in Alabama. We have a platinum card with them so my alterations are free

Has anyone had an experience (or knows someone who did) who purchased a suit from http://www.indochino.com/?

I'm thinking about going through this site for the suits for my groomsmen and I.

Spend well under $500, invest in getting it tailored, and change out the buttons.

The Search function is your friend. http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=109817

From my perspective, I think the company and the quality are both terrible. The owners are young and arrogant, and have caused many staff members to leave. They did hire an interim CFO who has helped settle down the team and they recently hired a Sr. Manager from Deloitte.

I find most of their men's wear just screams "grad night!" and doesn't really suit anyone over the age of 25.

Maybe check out Suit Supply. That's where I got my wedding suit. Best bang for your buck. Great fabric, really nice cuts for $500-800. They could probably charge double. Store in Seattle if you're ever there.

Got my groomsmen Banana Republic outlet suits. Not great quality, but better than rentals. Cuts are decent.

Online made-to-order like indochino I don't think is a good idea for your first suit. Too many variables that can go wrong. Reviews are all over the map too.

Next time you're on vacation in the States, hit up a Saks Off 5th outlet. Really solid quality men's wear (they have a nice house brand, as well as lots of other higher end names) at a really great price. You'll often see $800-1000 suits going for 300 bucks or so. Get one of those, get it tailored, and you're set.

The same outlets might also have a Hugo Boss store, which while it may not be as higher end of a brand as it used to be, I think are a good choice. That's where I bought my wedding tux and shoes, and they are were quite nice.

Loved shopping there in my late teens and early 20s. They have some really snazzy suits.

Starting to feel maybe a little old for their stuff now. White suits don't nearly carry the same allure anymore.
