You sure? He has a sliding ELC that capgeek says is active in 2013/14

Edit: to be clear, active and sliding

I believe it is possible for Klimchuk to play for the Flames this season, however Brian Burke doesn't like putting teenagers into the lineup

edit: If Klimchuk would come up with the Flames, it would also count as one of the Flames remaining 3 regular call ups

Klimchuk could also join Abby, right? (The same way that Kulak did last year?)

He can join Abby, but not technically in the same way Kulak did (who signed an ATO).

Flames just need to assign him there.

Klimchuk can definitely join Abby, yes. Don't think he'd even have to sign an ATO since he's already under contract.

I believe that is correct.

A couple of years ago, when Reinhart and Leach went to Abbotsford after Kootenay's season ended, Leach was on an ATO, Reinhart was just assigned to the AHL because he was already signed.

So if Klimchuk gets to play in Abbotsford, it wouldn't count as a year of his ELC right?

He could come up, play a few games, get some playoff experience in, then go back to Regina next year and do the samething.. ELC not kicking in UNLESS he played over X amount of games in the NHL?

Correct.

He signed his contract as an 18 year-old, so it can slide two seasons (this year and next) so long as he doesn't play more than 9 NHL games. He can play an unlimited number of AHL regular season and playoff games without triggering the ELC.

Because he will not turn 20 until 2015, he cannot go to Abbotsford next year until Regina's season is over. He could play in Calgary next season, but that's a long shot.

Sieloff's also checked in with Calgary once in awhile. So's Michael Ferland.

Thanks guys! Didn't realize there was a Sieloff thread! Should have looked a little harder

Sounds positive, though!

Burke has a lot to say about the prospects: http://www.calgaryherald.com/sports/...836/story.html

Burke on Johnny's size:
Quote:
“He comes with an asterix,” Burke acknowledged. “He’s a very small player. But we’ve got small players on our team and in our league and if anyone’s going to do it with diminutive size, it’s this kid.”

No mention about Gilmour in that article. He seems to get missed often.

Burke on Johnny's size:
Really looking forward to what Klimchuk can do in the AHL! I really think this guy is under the radar because he missed camp and spent some of this season injured.

The Flames are about to get a ridiculous influx of talent into the professional ranks. Arnold, Agostino, Van Brabant, Culkin, and Kulak are all headed to the pros. You can likely add Poirier and Gaudreau to that list, and there is still an outside chance that Klimchuk and Gilles find their way into the pro ranks as well. The Flames also have five picks in the first 90 in the upcoming draft, so the cupboard will become even more stocked with another player that may be ready come camp. Heady times for Flames fans and reason to believe the rebuild will not be as long as some have suggested.
