Buffalo Sabres @BuffaloSabres
#Sabres announce the team will officially retire the jersey of Dominik Hasek in a ceremony during the 2014-15 season. #39 to the rafters.

Awesome. Hasek might be the best goaltender I have ever seen play (can't say much about the generation of goaltenders from the 70's on back). I still remember him stealing the Olympics that one year. He almost single-handedly took the Sabres past the Stars for the cup, until Brett Hull's illegal goal cost them.
Hopefully the team is a little less embarrassing on the evening of the ceremony than they are now.

Not in the NHl but his play at the 98 Olympics might be one of the best international performances by a hockey player ever. And I will hate him forever because of it.
6 GP with a 0.97GAA, .961sv% and 2 SO. Just amazing when you consider the team in front of him.

Hasek is the reason I became a hockey fan after the 1998 Olympics. I was obsessed with him and the Sabres, and distinctly recall when Joe Juneau scored in OT to eliminate Buffalo from the playoffs that year against Washington. I was really happy to see him finally get his Cup with Detroit in 2003.
Well deserved, and when I think about it, it's a wonder it hadn't happened sooner.
