If that's the case, I don't feel particularly sympathetic towards your plight.
If you want to know my exact timeline, here it is:

Bought 2 shirts in May, one had an arm tear, one had a rip down the middle. Didn't return them immediately as I felt I could do it whenever, so I didn't make it a high priority.

Bought 2 more shirts in October, to replace the 2 ripped ones. Both of those ripped within the last month (both sleeve tears) and so I decided to do both returns at once.

Does that help?

I'm not sure I understand either with respect to "tear" and "rip". If the seam is coming apart, I can see your point. If there is a rip in the shirt... maybe stop juggling knives?

In any event, most stores have a 30 day return policy, so 100 days is still exceedingly good.

How does a shirt rip down the middle? Like the back of the shirt just shredded?

So four wrecked dress shirts in the last year, all saved up and returned at once?

I'd say it's returns like that that made them change their policy.

Marks was one of those places that was so good on returns that people laughed at them for how easy it was to take advantage. I know construction workers who were always like "yeah, we all just get our boots at marks, then you just make sure their sufficiently worn out in under a year and then get your free new boots!"

I think it's one of those policies that you can love and take advantage of when it's there, but when they suddenly get rid of it cause they're bleeding from everyone taking advantage you should just go "well that was good while it lasted".

The seam between the buttons / rest of the shirt about mid chest area.

I am glad the big guys are starting to change their policies. As a mom and pop shop it was getting quite annoying having to deal with stuff likes this "cause Walmart/Marks/Etc. will do it". Guess what consumer, we don't have the power that those companies have. So no we will not exchange your year old work boots that you stood in water for days on end, have no tread left and refused to untie/tie properly and now the backs of them are coming apart this instant.

Mark's used to donate overstock and brand new stock that wasn't selling to the homeless so that they would have the proper equipment to apply for labour jobs(Steel toes ect). These homeless people took advantage of this and would return their items with no receipt and get their "money back". Mark's extremely liberal return policy has hurt them in the past, and I don't blame them from changing. It is an added cost and they need to remain competitive. I don't think it is fair to hate on a company because they changed their return policy to one that closely resembles most competitors. I would still support Marks. The fact that they tried to do the right thing with the homeless situation is a lot more then I can say about most companies.

Honestly, I think he's needs to buy bigger shirts. If a shirt rips down the middle then it's too small.

I actually usually buy a size bigger than I am because I am tall / have longer arms, it definitely isn't tight around the midsection.

I'm not sure about that. I'm sure that guys tried to return them, but at the same time Marks would mark the items to prevent this from happening.

I think the OP's expectation, re returning things, is ridiculous. Thirty or even 10 days is lots in my mind.

I love Marks's. I have tops and lounging pants that I wear every day from there. And they have been worn for 2 years, washed once a week, and still look good.

Sure there may be the odd item that doesn't measure up, however I have found that most items wear well and are very reasonably priced.

My expectation? It has zero to do with my expectations and everything to do with their previous policy that they had. The thread wouldn't be made if the policy was what was is stated in your post.

If you honestly think there are issues with expectations, you are missing the point of this thread entirely.

I wonder if the exchange policy was changed because too many people bought items from Amazon and tried to return them without the receipt...

I think the OPs concern is legit. He bought items when a certain warranty existed and although they changed it later, they should honor original warranty.

Yes but unfortunately without a receipt there is no way to prove it was bought before the policy change...

I do have receipts for all my goods purchased prior to the policy change.

Your purchases are all probably on file as well if you used the same credit card.

I can't fault them theyusy have lost hundreds of thousands over the years.

When I was in my late teens-early 20's working construction I would buy boots in April wear them 80 hours a week doing concrete work then when I was laid off in November and they were falling apart return them so I could start with a fresh pair the next spring.

I only paid for one set of boots but actually got 6-7. It was greasy but at that time in my life(10 years ago)$150 was a lot of money to spend on boots every year and they had no problem with it.
