Did Rerun just set a record for fastest thread ever deleted from existence? Memo to concerned fans: Starting bizarre, stalker level threads will not help convince Johnny or his mom to sign here. It will likely have the opposite effect.

The guy is 20. His mom doesn't sound any different from the thousands of other moms of 20-year-old university students out there. How many parents in Alberta have been dismayed at the prospect of their 20-year-old son dropping out of university to go work in the oil patch for $150,000 a year? It's not all that different.
Flames fans see Gaudreau as a hot commodity professional hockey player. His mom sees him as a son who should finish college and do other stuff kids his age do. To me it isn't a case of parental over-involvement in a young athlete's career; quite the opposite - it sounds like she wants him to be more normal for another year rather than set aside everything else in life to chase the pot of gold.

I think he's closer to 5'9/160 now. Nearly a Paul Byron size. Not bad..

I didn't read all ten pages, but I'm not going to judge this topic either way until late next season if he has not signed, I feel the Panic to get him signed is not needed yet.
1st - there is not an NHL spot for him, we have Hudler, Glencross, Galiardi, Bouma, Beartschi, Agostino, Ferland, and Klimchuk all under contract who will be fighting for that spot. As well as talk that Cammaleri might be back. And I think many of them are just as likely to win the roster spot as he is.
A rookie max contract is not a guaranteed $3M. Its is guaranteed three bonus's of 90,000 and three AHL salaries of $70,000 (I think). 1/2 million dollars over 3 year. Still enough money to pay for 1 year of school, and be miles ahead of most 23 year olds financially, who's career earning will likely have been less than a quarter of that to date.
This is not a Schultz situation. Schultz was a UFA before the NHL season even started. So as soon as his school year ended he was able to sign with any team, before free agency. All NHL GMs love getting stuff done early, so it created a bidding war. By August 15th most of the teams Gaudreau would rather go to will have little space on their roster for rookies, because they will not be able to take the risk.
So if Gaudreau does not want to sign with the Flames, the Flames will give permission for other teams to talk with his agent, and he will be traded to a team he is willing to sign with for fair value.
Like the Corbin Knight situation, I think a mid round pick was a good return for Florida on a 21 year AHL center, who might develop into a NHL depth center.
It also seems to me that Neither Schultz or Knight were courted aggressively by Florida or Anaheim.

If Gaudreau is half as good and productive at the next level as he was in college, do not be mistaken, there WILL be a spot for him. That shouldn't even be a concern.
Besides, it's important he moves up to Abbotsford now to progress development even if he can't crack the NHL team.

Agreed. Adjusting to the pro schedule is the next step for JG. If he can do it while being productive in the NHL, then great.

^ Just to add, Gaudreau is too good for the NCAA right now. He just embarrasses the weakest teams and really only a handful of teams can offer up a competent defense that can come close to shutting him down.
Hockey development wise there is really nothing left for him in the NCAA. He needs to get into a higher quality league.

100% agree. There is nothing left for him to do in the NCAA hockey wise, it would be more ideal if he could sign a pro deal and continue his schooling privately. I understand why his mother wants him to finish school but professionally it could be detrimental to not progress to the next level.

I doubt this advisor will pull a fast one. There are some well connected guys in hockey you don't want to make an enemy of and Burke has to be at the top of the list.

Apparently the Flames recently (i.e. within the last three weeks) ordered jersey nameplates for Gaudreau, Arnold, Agostino, and two other guys (who I believe are college free agents). Obviously nothing official, but it looks like the Flames expect JG (and Arnold) will be donning Flames sweaters at some point in the near future...
Don't know if this qualifies as anything but take it for what it's worth...

This. She sounds like a really selfish person, compounded by the fact that she's talking to the media about all this.

How would one even find out this type of information? Are we talking bulk ordering of the nameplates or a few dozen for their actual jerseys? Where does the "leak" for something like that originate?

A moderator can PM me if they want to know the "source" (I use that term very loosely)...

For crying out loud. Shut up. She's not selfish; she's his mom! She's talking to the media because the media probably came calling. That's it.
