Well let's hope Calgary's new rink will be better for hockey than the Barclay Center. My god that looks just awful for the Islanders (but I'm sure it is great for basketball, concerts etc)

Don't want an NFL team here. Just another billion dollar corporate entity who would charge your first born for tickets to a mediocre, over-hyped product. I'll keep my CFL thanks. The only league that still has some control over spending and fans can actually relate to the players.

Uhh, you know the Flames own the Stampeders right?

Not exactly a mom and pop shop. Murray Edwards alone would be in the top half of NFL owners in terms of net worth, and conglomerates aren't allowed to own NFL teams.

A concept from 2010 for a 28,000 stadium at an undisclosed location. This was two years before the Flames bought the Stamps.

It may have been commissioned by the Stamps as a possible replacement for McMahon (there are mountains in the distance on the one image, and a couple of CFL stills on the other), but a lot of things have changed in the last four years, so I'd suggest that concept is dead.
I would say it was a concept for the Ottawa RedBlacks based on this quote from your link

Quote:
CEI Architecture developed a concept design for a new 28,000-seat outdoor spectator facility as part of a new North American sports franchise. It included 32 private suites, two large party rooms, dressing rooms for both football and soccer, and a split-level public concourse which provided diverse and unique seating opportunities for patrons with disabilities.

LOL, do you go to flames games or peewee hockey, similar comparison!

CFL is garbage, 95% garbage talent, 99% garbage refs and 100% garbage rules...sorry to be so rude, but it is the truth.

This thread is becoming like the WGMG thread. It goes around in circles with the same arguments repeating themselves over and over. You hate the CFL, fine, lots of people love it. THAT is truth.

Back to discussing arenas.

You have me convinced...
The next time my nephew plays his next game, I will sit at home in protest that their games are garbage...95% garbage talent, 99% garbage refs and 100% garbage rules

There's no point in watching any lesser skilled sports unless you're watching the best

Amazing building? Yes, but certainly not for hockey ...

Spoiler!

Take a closer look at the bottom left corner of that layout and imagine those people watching the action behind the net.

I don't know if one or two dozen people having to turn their heads (admittedly pretty severely) makes it a bad hockey arena. A lot of really cool sports venues have some obstructed-view seats. I think this venue will have a very intimate feel compared to some of the giant cavernous buildings, even like the Saddledome can seem. It's not ideal but it's a pretty significant leap forward from Nassau. In the day of cookie-cutter state-of-the-art arenas, I welcome something like Barclays being added to the league.

Thanks. OBVIOUSLY keep in mind I would expect the layout to be geared towards an ice surface as opposed to a basketball court. It would need to be scaled up just to get to the 19K seating we can expect any new arena to be. I'm talking about the how the building looks and feels and the fan experience from the seating bowl to the multi-level concourses to the buffet section for their version of Avison Young (hint..the open section behind the nets is where the club is. Imagine not being locked way in the basement away from the action). I reiterate...OMG it was amazing. .

Looks like America West in Phoenix which was a horrible building for hockey. I think the Islanders are going to regret moving into that building. They are going to be an afterthought with the owners and the poor configuration will just piss off what hockey fans they have left.

Ironic though that the Coyotes had much better attendance in America West even if it was at a reduced attendance of between 16-17k.

Canadian NFL fans are an odd breed. They are so massively insecure in their fandom that they have to trash the CFL every chance they get. In the end, they come off petty and childish.

In fairness, if Canadians don't aggressively defend the NFL it will fold.

Without their support the league is doomed.

Yeah, the lower bowl inside the blue line would be horrendous for hockey, but I would LOVE the upper corners and end seats. It would be like Maple Leaf Gardens where you're pretty much over top of the ice surface.

I think this is the way it is going. They don't need it to be bigger than McMahon, just better. I think they'll go partially covered ~35K seats so that the fans are at least sheltered from the elements somewhat but it allows the expansion capacity for the Grey Cup and maybe that dream of the World Cup.

That's painting Canadian NFL fans with a pretty wide brush.
