The images they use for the new stadium in Toronto are the concept drawings for the new Farmers Field stadium in Los Angeles, so the Calgary one is probably a similar concept from a different city too.

The link has it listed as a "new stadium" with temporary seats to hit 48k. It is listed with a new Toronto NFL stadium, and the new stadium in Hamilton.

Would they really build a brand new football stadium with less than 60-70K seats?

Capacities don't add up but.... CFL stamps picture on the second image. The timing looks more like it was for Winnipeg. Conducted back in 2010.

Here's the source: http://www.ceiarchitecture.com/proje...stadium-study/
A concept from 2010 for a 28,000 stadium at an undisclosed location. This was two years before the Flames bought the Stamps.
It may have been commissioned by the Stamps as a possible replacement for McMahon (there are mountains in the distance on the one image, and a couple of CFL stills on the other), but a lot of things have changed in the last four years, so I'd suggest that concept is dead.

In Calgary? I'd be surprised if a new football stadium here had over 45K seats. Even that seems large. Just my own personal opinion, but I don't think that we've got the population/market to utilize anything larger with the exception of an occasional marquee event.

I followed up on this earlier today by asking the CSA about these renderings and from their end, it's not legit.

The Stamps had the best team in the league last year and had trouble pushing past 30,000 most games. I'd make 35,000 my max capacity but have room for temporary seating if needed. No need for a big stadium, the demand will not be there.

I'm not saying that CFL demand is all that great, but I'm sure a lot of people don't go to games because that stadium is a pile of crap.
I want the NFL pipedream. Build a 60k covered stadium!

I understand that somewhat, but Calgary is still a rapidly growing city and 60-70 strikes me as average in most major markets.
- Edmonton's Commonwealth stadium is 60-75K
- Vancouver is 55-60K and they're latte sipping elitists who snub their noses at Football as its too rough for their tender sensibilities
40,000 seems like the absolute minimum.

Edmonton and Vancouver have similar attendance to Calgary and their stadiums sit half empty. It costs a lot more to build a 60K stadium than a 35K stadium with temporary seating.

40k and room for temp seating would be a good number imo.

35K good quality seats (non-metal bench, decent legroom). Designed to add on 5,000 or more if needed. For example, if the endzones were left empty, or minimal.. Add on like the do in NCAA stadiums quite often.

IMO 36k would be perfect. You want at least that much for Grey Cup and playoff games. A roof would cost a lot more but IMO it would pay off in better attendance in the fall/winter games. Fans aren't as hardened as they used to be in this day and age and with HD games on TV it's a tough call for many to choose freezing their butts in -10 or sitting on their warm couch.

Went to see an NBA game at the Barclay's Centre in Brooklyn over this spring break. The Islanders are moving there in a couple of years. AMAZING building. OMG. If the new Saddledome is even half as nice, we are in for a treat. I may be dead by then at this rate...
