Big game tonight. There were a few games recently that the Roughnecks played that I'm sure would have beaten the Rush. If Calgary can play a teamwork offense instead of attempted individual efforts, I like our chances. And Poulin has to be solid.

The goaltending wasn't outstanding, but it was the transition more than anything that killed us. That result was 40% Edmonton being a great team, 40% Calgary playing like crap and 20% the referees playing favourites.

The SOG are almost 2-1 favouring Edm. Were they this bad tonight? Rush are definitely in Calgary's head. They need to figure this out quickly.

Have to give the Rush credit. They are like a well oiled machine. Their possessions almost always result in a good scoring chance. Their defense makes the opposition take low percentage shots and goaltending is solid.
I've never been one to question officiating but a lot of calls were made against Calgary last night that I've never seen called before. Very marginal at best. The Snider crosscheck on the faceoff?
They may have been concerned that it was going to get rougher as the game got more lopsided. But then Calgary got 7 penalties to 0 for Colorado in their last game which is almost unheard of.

Both. They were good and we were bad.
Just about the only highlights for Calgary was Snider beating the piss out of Thompson - likely caused by Thompson deliberately trying to injure him on the faceoffs - and Shawn Evans deliberately elbowing a Rush player in the face right after letting the referee know what he thought about the state of the officiating. Definite cheapshot by Evans, but it got the message across.

when watching that game, two things came to mind. The reffing in the NLL is horrible and Calgary is too small. Almost all of Calgary's skill guys are small (Dobbie, Evans etc..) Edmonton was way bigger and more physical.

Roughnecks jump out to an 8-0 lead then proceed to get outplayed for the rest of the game. Same old, same old.
Hey Lower BC Mainland! You supply about half of the league's players and that's the best you can do for attendance? You should be embarrassed.

I've read before that the NLL in the lower mainland is a tough sell because fans can see the exact same players at much lower costs when the BCLA senior season runs. Honestly, I'd love to see what a team could do in Winnipeg. Calgary and Edmonton had no significant history, but we can draw 10k and 7.5k respectively on a consistent basis. Might work in the Peg, and give Minnesota a geographical rival.

I think you mean the Western Lacrosse Association. The most recent numbers I can find on them was for 2005. Average league attendance was about 1300 per game with Victoria drawing the most at just over 1700. The Langley game last night drew 3629. You are correct that ticket prices at around $15 a game are much less than the NLL. I'm not seeing that excuse as being valid.
I can see that franchise moving again as that area obviously generates a lot more players than they do fans. Winnipeg is an interesting option. It would have to be better than Langley.

Going to the game this weekend, first Roughnecks game in years. Pretty excited. How busy does the dome get?
Just read Theo Fluery will be there too. Neat.

The cowboy videos for the goal celebrations were worth the price of admission alone. Even the moon walking Shetland pony made an appearance.

Goal videos were great.
Helluva good time. It's a shame I hadn't been in so many years. Going to be a regular now.

Calgary's last home game until the playoffs didn't go well. The Roughnecks would fight hard to tie the game several times then the Rush would wander down the floor right after that and take the lead again with next shot.
A few clutch saves might have made the difference, but as they were in previous meetings, Calgary was just outmatched the whole game.

Most positive thing about last night was 15K+ in the stands. Haven't seen a crowd like that since they gave away free tickets a few years back. Great crowd.
|
Plus the Rush were about a half a second from losing possession. Bannister was about to be called for 8 seconds and just hurled the ball into other end which caused the horrible bounce then goal.
Also loved the crowd last night!
