I edited the thread title based upon the press conference from the Malaysian PM. That's what I got from it. If I'm wrong, please let me know. My intention was just to update people who may have tuned away from this thread 40 pages ago.

Neither. I believe the satellite signals were examined more closely and they are now confident it was over the South Indian Ocean. With the fuel they had, they concluded it's crashed and lost somewhere in the ocean.

Im not sure I would say that yet, but I think most people have the feeling they will find the ocean surface debris field in the coming days (or confirm that they have already found some parts of it). I basically think of the wreckage as whatever is left of the airframe and ultimately the black box, both likely on the ocean floor. Anyones guess when this will be located, but it could be months or years.

Book it.
When though? It changed course multiple times after the initial turn back towards Malaysia

No publically available information indicates that the wreckage has been found, debris has been identified that is of significance but whether it's from MH370 is not confirmed. And probably will not till a ship can go identify it. I expect by Tuesday we will know.

I would not put wreckage found. Search Narrowed would be better, or remove the passenger count and clarify.

With how long this has been popular "MH370 Investigation thread - PM Confirms flight ends in Southern Indian Ocean" would work

Didn't know he was asking about a thread title change.

That would be more accurate. I wouldnt say "wreckage found" until they have pieces in hand that they can verify their origin. It sounds misleading as it is now.

The best update would be "Malaysia Airlines Jet missing. Update- officials conclude crash in Indian ocean/all lives presumed lost".

This is something most people have suspected for a long time, but it is basically official now in the eyes of the Malaysian gov.

This one is better:
"Malaysia Airlines jet missing, **Update- Malaysian PM completing phase 2 of "Operation Pin this on the Opposition"**"

'Malaysia Airlines Jet Still Missing, Still No One Knows What The F is Going On'

Not a knock on this thread or anyone in it, as this is the perfect place for a discussion. People can get involved if they want and stay away if they want. People can peruse and scan. The internet and the written word is good for that.

But the news stations? My god. There has been almost literally no real info on this since it happened yet it's all you hear about.

They are confident that the plane flew for several hours to the South Indian Ocean. Given there's no dry land in that area and from the last satalite ping, the plane must have flown for 6-7 hours and would be running out of fuel fast, they made the assumption that the plane had crashed into the South Indian Ocean west of Australia. It makes sense given the evidence on hand.

Who cares what the title is? Just have it as "Malaysia Flight 370 Superthread" as its going to go on for years, no one is coming here to just browse the thread name to get their news fix.

Had to be fire. Burned out electrical systems (transponder, radio etc.), loss of pressure, navigation chaos, final act of pilot or co-pilot is to resume auto pilot. Auto pilot settings could have been changed during the pressure loss/navagation chaos/fire.

Does not have to be fire. I feel fire would be way too catastrophic, not supporting a 7 hour flight.

I think hypoxia fits better.
