Wasn't tested. Made the saves he had to, the goal was not his fault, it was a perfect screen.

Either way, nice to get an easy game for the first one back in 6 weeks. Oilers are good for something at least ...

Ramo was very good - certainly solid. Gets lost in a game like that but he played quite well.

Thoughts on the game:
- Glencross keeps and simple and look what happens! Keep doing that abd he will be fine.
- Monahan needs to get stronger. His release is not powerful enough for an NHL player.
- Backlund coming into his own with yet another two point night. I really hope Burke re-signs him in the offseason. Backlund deserves a pay raise.
- Agostino with another good game. He should get his first goal anytime now.
- Giordano should be a Norris Candidate. If he's not, then it's pure robbery.
- Healy shows his idiocy again by saying Giordano is not a star.

Oilers are doomed because they are getting 19 and 20 year olds run the show.

One of the things that still has me smiling today is that somewhere in this hell hole, noted Flames-hater Kevin Lowe (his #### eating grin caught on Tv when Calgary got pulled out of the Crosby sweepstakes (and the Oilers right after) and his explanation in leaving of Phaneuf off the Olympic team in 2010) has to come with grips to losing by the worst margin to the Flames in the 30+ years of the NHL BOA. Him stewing over that all night is maybe the best part of a glorious game last night.
Hopefully such an embarrassment had him thinking of making more rash decisions, or another temporary "step away from the team" moment.

Healy wasn't being critical of Gio . He was marveling at how good he and Brodie were at being +5 and yet still weren't selected as game stars.

Where Friedman and the panel are wrong is in two points:
• First, the belief that the Oilers mix of talent is okay, and merely needs supplementation and growth to be successful. Wrong. The problem stems from a failed draft philosophy on Edmonton's part. They have been building a river hockey team to win by outscoring the opposition. The problem is that this is an unsustainable model, that has NEVER WORKED at the NHL level. The players are talented, but the mix is horrible, and will never succeed because the model does not work.
• Second, the belief that the Oilers "fab five" are comparable to other successful teams' top picks. They are not—not even close. The Oilers have assembled a group of talented players, but this group is not on the same level of the truly elite NHL talent like Stamkos, Crosby, Malkin, MacKinnon, Toews, etc. The Oilers best players are not good enough to win on talent alone, and they are not the right kind of players to develop the sort of game to compensate for their shortcomings.
It's not a simple correction. The Oilers need to dismantle and start over if they want to succeed.
|
Actual Friedman pointed out exactly your second point. They all agreed that Hall/RNH were not elite and they didn't compare to Colorado, Toews/Kane, etc

The more games I watch the more it's apparent that Hall sucks.
A glorified Gaborik. You'll never win anything with that guy, but he'll get his icetime and cookies.

It should be noted that we've won the season series against the LOLilers yet again. How may years in a row have we taken it now?

Hall reminds me of that kid in hockey who you'd play with and he'd have the best shot, he'd be the best skater, best passer but he wouldn't be the best player on the ice (or floor). Guy has tools but no toolbox.

Hating the Flames is probably the best thing Lowe brings to the Oilers. Certainly, hating the oilers would be a merit quality for a Flames executive. In conclusion, I think the Oilers should continue to employ Lowe for life.

Hall's mentality is just plain awful and Eakins is a fool. He should've thrown Hall out of the game and told him to hit the showers. Why deny it wasn't embarassing? There's a problem if it wasn't.

The fact that the oilers got beat down 8-1 lastnight is a good tie breaker.

Bahaha, for what? Spraying him with a little water?
That Eakins lost his #### on Hall in the first place is embarrassing for Eakins, not Hall.
