“You can spit on me for all I care, if I deserve it but you know what when I see a jersey thrown out ... I’m from here. You’re not just disrespecting the people in this room, you’re disrespecting the guys who wore the jersey before us. Al the great guys who pulled that sweater over their head ... the Messiers and the Gretzkys all took pride in wearing that jersey. Guys like Joey Moss every day, the unsung heroes around the rink who pride themselves on that logo.”

This is the problem. The past is not now and "The City of Champions" needs to get over the 30 yrs ago they has something special up there attitude. I personally feel that they should wear it like a blanket!

Hey, remember this thread from before the season? http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=130733

Did anyone put money down on the over/under on the Flames' point total at 63.5? With this win, they've hit 65 points, so if you bet "over", you're cashing in.

The Canucks and Oilers are also both guaranteed to finish "under". Any bets on the Canucks or Oilers to win the Division are also guaranteed losers (just like those teams).

Another question. Even though the oiler jersey toss has become a frequent event (as frequent as a bear's $hit in the woods), are the flames the first team to draw 3 disgraced oiler jerseys in one night?

I kind of missed what happened with Hall tonight. What's the story?

He is a loser. He threw a water bottle, because he sucked a tiny bit more than normal. Some water got on his coach. Because the TEAM sucked so much, the coach got madder than normal. And yelled. And pointed his finger at Hall.

No. I have to agree with Friedman on this point. When picking in the top-ten at the entry draft, a team should ALWAYS pick the best player available.

Where Friedman and the panel are wrong is in two points:
• First, the belief that the Oilers mix of talent is okay, and merely needs supplementation and growth to be successful. Wrong. The problem stems from a failed draft philosophy on Edmonton's part. They have been building a river hockey team to win by outscoring the opposition. The problem is that this is an unsustainable model, that has NEVER WORKED at the NHL level. The players are talented, but the mix is horrible, and will never succeed because the model does not work.
• Second, the belief that the Oilers "fab five" are comparable to other successful teams' top picks. They are not—not even close. The Oilers have assembled a group of talented players, but this group is not on the same level of the truly elite NHL talent like Stamkos, Crosby, Malkin, MacKinnon, Toews, etc. The Oilers best players are not good enough to win on talent alone, and they are not the right kind of players to develop the sort of game to compensate for their shortcomings.

It's not a simple correction. The Oilers need to dismantle and start over if they want to succeed.

I love this team. Far too many things going on tonight in that game. As a whole, the best sporting event I've watched on T.V all year.

Thank you Flames for that.

I had to PVR the game last night and have been avoiding CP until now (just finished).

That may have been the best game I have watched in 10 years.

Awesome. In every single way.

OT - Who's our best defensive forward? Backlund? Stajan? Bouma?

Honestly, I have no concept of understanding how the hell Lowe et all have jobs still.

There's inept, and there's incompetent and then there's the performance delivered all the time by Edmonton.

Seriously, if I was in charge there, (well first I'd puke), but I don't think there would be a single person from the trainers through the upper management that would continue to have their jobs. Flush out all the garbage in that organization and start over. There is no salvaging anything that's there currently. You might even have to tear down and trade off RNH/Yak/Eberle/Hall because they have been contaminated with "Loser" attitudes.

So glad we don't have that problem. We just don't have near the same amount of raw talent that's necessary to be successful yet.

Proudest I've been of this team since '04, what a satisfyingly beautiful game!

I actually thought the Agostino/Monahan/Colborne line was the most consistent forward line tonight. Lots of chances created, and they never really got running around in their own zone. Such a huge improvement from their first game together, and I hope it continues. The way Kenny is playing, he won't be waiting much longer for his first goal.

Surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet, CBC caught Eakins saying F me pretty clearly! We definitely need this as a gif to replace the Brent sutter one we used to use.

OT a bit but how was Ramo last night? Obviously the save pct is great, but was he tested?

Either way, nice to get an easy game for the first one back in 6 weeks. Oilers are good for something at least ...
